Bear
Bear is a large Newfie x who is thought to be around 6 years of age. He had to be shaved down to remove horrific mats that were covering his body and we know when his fur starts to grow in again he will be one STUNNING boy!
A note from his foster Mom
He is adjusting to city life very well. His three favourite things in the world are:
- walks
- being petted and fussed over and
getting butt scritches (he's a leaner!)
- the couch
Bear has apparently never been walked on a leash before but he is doing very well on a front clip harness and is easy to walk. He is curious about the city, occasionally needs to stop and really look at things (he's like a tourist!) but he adores several long easy rambling walks a day.
He has been on his own a long time so he's still unsure about what is involved with being a pet - but he's willing to learn! He's smart, food motivated & will love clicker training. He's clever enough to "figure out" doors and gates and fences. If he doesn't get taken for a walk, he'll take himself, so he'll need a family dedicated to meeting his needs. He's not particularly high-energy or high activity level - he's just not used to hanging around the house yet, or playing with toys.
He gets along well with the house cat (but will chase street cats, squirrels etc). He gets along with the resident dogs and is fine with greeting dogs on leash. He's gentle and friendly with people. His tail is pretty much always gently wagging.
His coat was badly matted and he had to be shaved. His beautiful thick double coat will grow back though, and he will need weekly (or more frequent) thorough brushing to keep his coat beautiful. Fortunately, he enjoys being brushed and is fine with having his feet handled.
He has a very solid temperament. He is occasionally a bit uncertain about being indoors. Bear is an all around great dog who just needs someone to teach him all about belonging to someone. He has a lot of love to give.
If you're a person with a pair of sturdy walking shoes & a soft couch, his rambling heart will be yours.
Note: Approved application, home visit and adoption fee apply. Bear is fostered on the mainland and you must travel to meet him. Click on Big Heart Rescue to access website and contact email. |

Roma
Name: Roma
Breed lab/terrier mix
Age 7 months approx.
Size approx. 30 lbs.
Roma is a sweet young dog who likes to be around her people. She is happy to cuddle up next to you on the couch, especially if you are willing to give her a belly rub!
Roma still has some of that puppy exuberance in her, but is also able to calm down, and responds very well to verbal commands. When she gets excited she will start to get mouthy, but taking your hands away and telling her to sit is enough to bring her back under control - she knows that if she calms down she will get pets again. She has destroyed a couple of socks, and will need to be reminded that these are not dog toys. Roma is also very interested in food, and learned quickly that she has to sit before eating her meals or getting a treat. She is very interested in other animals, and loves playing and hiking with other dogs. She does have a pretty strong desire to run after birds and squirrels, so may need training to curb this. She has not been introduced to cats officially. I suspect she would want to chase them but is young enough to be taught that this is not good. All in all she is a very loving dog who would make a great companion. She would do best in a home where she can spend a lot of time with her people. Being a smaller sized dog she may be good for a family with kids. Please read Adoption Information carefully. For more info or an application please Email .

Molly
This is Molly. She was rescued from a very high kill shelter in LA. She is approx 4 years old. She is a very sweet girl. She really wants to be with her people, and would do best with someone who is around alot or can take her to work with them. She only weights 7 pounds, she is underweight and needs to put on a few pounds. She is houstrained, and good with cats and other dogs. She does not like being in a crate at all, and should be allowed to sleep with her family. Molly is a dog that bonds very quickly to people, she just really wants someone to love her. She needs to work on her leash manners, and learn that barking on walks and in the car isn't allowed. She has a loud bark, and tends to use it when panicked or scared. We feel she has been mistreated in the past, as loud voices scare her, and she sometimes acts like she thinks she is going to be hit if you more your arms suddenly. She really deserves a home of her own where she will never be abandoned again. Molly will also need to be fed special food through out her life, and her new owners will need to be prepared for that. We will discuss this further with any potential adopters. Her adoption fee is $450. Click on BC Poodle Rescue for more info. |
Pippin
This is Pippin, an approx 8 year old poodle. She loves to be around people but is cautious at first until she realizes you aren't going to hurt her . It appears she not treated well in her previous life. She gets along with other dogs and cats. She is great at sleeping in the crate all night. She potty trained and has had no accidents in the house. She is fairly quiet, she has barked a few times but stops as soon as I tell her to. She a very cute girl and just wants to be around people and loves to be next to you. She is good at walking on the leash and is learning to love the outdoors but finds it a bit cold and would rather sit by the fire. This girl is really special and so deserves a home of her own. Herbie
1 year old buff male
What a cutie! Herbie is totally adorable. He was just dumped at a shelter and we don't know why.
We're getting to know him and he's fine with being handled and basically seems a good little guy who gets on well with other dogs and likes people.
One thing we're noticing is that he seems quite shy and unsure around children so he'll probably do best in an adult home. We haven't had him long enough to make that a certain judgement but that's the way it's looking at this point.

Tia
4 year old black/white parti female
Tia came to us from a situation where the neglectful breeder who had her passed away. She arrived filthy & matted - covered in fleas - with her tiny tummy filled with parasites and she badly needed dental work and, of course, spaying, vaccinating, and microchipping. Nonetheless, her tail never stopped wagging during all the "fixing up" she required. Everyone fell in love with her.
Look at her now! She's a tiny girl (18 lbs), 4 years old, and truly a little bundle of beauty, joy and happy energy. She loves people and gets along well with other dogs. Tia is just beautiful inside and out and if you want a big dose of " sweet and loving" - this is your girl! Tia thinks snuggling is an Olympic sport :) and she's "going for the Gold" !
One of our absolute favorites..just a lovely and easy girl. Why she is that way with all the neglect, use & abuse she suffered - we just don't know.
Who can say why dogs seem ready to give humans another chance? All we can do is to try and deserve it. For more info, go to:

Tessa
5 year old black/white parti female
Tessa is a sweet, gentle little girl who was rescued from a criminally negligent backyard breeder.
She arrived covered in fleas with her little tummy filled with parasites and desperately needed dental work, spaying, and surgery for Cherry Eye. (A common, easily fixed prolapsed gland).
In spite of the horrifying neglect, she loves people and gets along well with other dogs. Now she's a happy, healthy girl just waiting for the loving home she deserves. |
Priscilla
1 year 6 mths buff female
What a good, sweet little girl ! Other than being a bit shy when first meeting people, she's a darling dog
and likes people and is good with other dogs and children.
We feel she'd be best in a home where someone is around a lot - or has another dog for company.
Or both ! Intuition tells us that Priscilla wouldn't be a happy girl left alone all day, every day and would be most content in a more active home. For more info, go to:Angels Under Our Wings Cocker

Travis
4 year old black/tan male
Travis came from the same unspeakable "hoarding situation" as Harley & Sebastian. On top of being severely underweight and needing urgent medical attention he had cataracts and was pretty much blind.
But look at this totally handsome boy now! He's had the cataract surgery and has come out of his shell to the extent we sometimes have to tell him to stop being so "bossy" with the other dogs :).
Travis gets on well with other dogs and likes people - he's still a bit shy with men and needs to have that trust built slowly at his own pace.
We feel the perfect home for Travis would be an adult household and one with another dog would be a bonus.

Harley
Harley 24lbs 2 yrs old blk/tan male
UPDATE: Harley has had a rough start in his short little life. He didn't know how to trust people and who could blame him after the neglect he suffered. He has come along way since he first arrived and no longer "screams" when he first meets people. He LOVES chasing a ball, he gets along great with other dogs, is crate trained, rarely barks, jumps into my arms to cuddle and his little bum wags a mile a minute. He can still be a little nervous when first meeting people but quickly learns to trust (all you have to do is throw his ball and your his friend for life! lol!). He walks well on a leash, knows how to sit, lay down, look and we are working on his stay. He is one very special little doggie and definitely one of our favorites and deserves someone special of his own! If you are interested in adopting Harley please go to our website @ Angels Under Our Wings Cocker
Rescue to complete our online adoption application
Meet Harley! Harley is Sebastion and Stella’s sibling. He is one of the 26 cockers that came from a hoarding situation and is currently underweight which is typical of dogs coming from this type of situation. Harley has had his cherry eyes fixed. He is a 2yr old black and tan cutie pie and we will have more information about him as we get to know him. |
Sebastion
Sebastion 2 yr old Blk/Tan male 24lbs
Update: Since Sebastion arrived we have been working on his socialization as he was nervous around strangers. He has had a bit of a rough start to life and it is no wonder he didn't know how to trust people. When he was taken out of the hoarding situation he was dirty, terribly matted and malnorished. He has really come at of his shell and although he can still be a little nervous when first meeting new people he quickly learns to trust and then is very affectionate. He gets along great with other dogs and loves chasing a ball & playing with squeaky toys. He is a happy little guy and is really quiet. He is crate trained and walks well on a leash, he knows sit, down, look, come and we are working on his stay. He will need a home that will continue to draw him out of his shell even more and help build his confidence. Sebastion is Stella and Harley's sibling. He is also one of the 26 dogs from the hoarding situation. |

Wilma and Betty
This sister act is a pair of 5-6 year old Taiwanese ladies that are sweet, calm and friendly . They are sheltie mix (guess:) and about 13kg (or 29 lbs)each. They walk well on leash and are great in the house and with people and dogs. Cats are an unknown at this point. Betty is the more confident of the two, where Wilma is starting to come out of her shell after a week in a great foster home. Betty, the smaller of the two, is a tad overweight, but this is just due to lack of opportuity to get much exercise in the shelter (they had ben there for almost 5 years!!). She has quickly learned the joy of walks, especially with the idealic weather we have been blessed with!
These smiley girls would sure love a home together where they can relax and learn all that comes with the good life here in Canada. They are 5ish, but these smaller breeds often live well into their teens...so they have many years of fun and affection to bring to their future family. They are up to date on shots, spayed and have just had their teeth cleaned to boot. Their coats were clipped short for ease of grooming in the shelter, but with a good diet and regular brushing, they will soon be the fluffy and gorgeous ladies they were born to be!

Juno
Juno is a striking 5 year old Siberian Husky with piercing eyes that change from palest blue to turquoise depending on the light. As he was most likely kept penned in Taiwan, he needs to gain some weight and muscle tone to make the most of his physique.
He is a real talker/singer as Sibes tend to be, and enjoys carrying on full WOO WOO conversations. He walks well on leash and will enjoy long walk/runs once his endurance is built to where it should be. He is also is true to the breed in that if a door or gate is left open, or he is is left alone in a yard...he'll be off exploring in a heartbeat.
He gets on with other most dogs, and cats as well, but like most huskies, his best times are spent playing and cuddling with his people! He pulls some on leash as he is just learning, but is not a strong puller. Juno is crate trained and learning all his house manners. He is very bright and is learning basic commands very quickly.
This boy has immense potential for a breed savvy home!!

Rosie
This ten-month-old sweetheart may look all grown up, but she has the sweet, playful nature of a puppy. Every dog she meets in a potential playmate, and every human is her very best friend. Even the household cat has succumbed to her charms, and will happily sleep on Rosie’s head.
Rosie probably did not have the best start in life. She came to the shelter with skin problems and no training whatsoever. Both of these issues are being resolved in foster care – her coat is looking great, and she is loving her new life as a family dog. She is now housetrained, and learning basic obedience and crate training. She has no problems being left alone in the house during the day.
Like any young pittie, Rosie has a ton of energy and loves walking, running, and playing. Her foster mom thinks she’d do very well as a jogging partner. When her “off switch” has been activated you’ll find her lounging on the floor, sleeping underneath the cat or – her very favourite activity – snuggling with a human.
Rosie gets along well with other dogs, though she gets impatient and barky when she can’t meet and play. Continued controlled, positive socialization is a must, as well as teaching her self-control and manners around other dogs. With proper introductions Rosie would do great living with another dog or a dog-savvy cat.
Because she is young, Rosie’s new family should be aware that dog-to-dog sociability can change as she matures (as with any dog) and be prepared to set her up for success with lots of slow and positive introductions.
Her ideal family will provide lots of exercise, consistent rules and positive leadership. Rosie can be puppy-like and excitable, so continued work on basic obedience, loose-leash walking and house manners is advised. With the right home this bright little girl will learn fast and thrive, and have unlimited love to give. “Rosie’s googly eyes will melt your heart,” her foster mom writes. “She has so much love to give it’s ridiculous!"

Cleo
Breed: Classic Mosaic
Sex: Spayed female
Age: 2 years
Weight: 18lbs
Cleo was rescued from a high kill pound in Arkansas. As with most
"Mosaics" we aren't sure about her genetic background although her
build suggests Italian Greyhound and perhaps some Terrier. She was a
skinny 16lb waif when we pulled her from the shelter but now that
she's in foster care in the south she has put on some weight, gotten
the shine back in her coat and rediscovered what it is like to be
part of a family. Cleo gets along well with other dogs including the
resident great dane in her foster home. We don't yet know how she is
with cats. She's active outside and loves running with her foster
family. Inside she's happy to relax and curl up next to someone on the couch.
Cleo will be coming to the Victoria area in early March. More
information about her, Mosaic Rescue and the adoption process can be

Maggie & Squirt
These 2 dogs are toy poodles. Squirt is the smaller one and she weights 4 pounds and is 8 years old, Maggie is the larger one who is 8 pounds and is 12 years old. Both of these dogs had to be given up because their owners could no longer care for them. They are both quiet dogs, their foster mom reports she barely knows they are there. They will bark when someone is at the door though. They are both a little shy. They have no experience with cats so we don't know how they would do with cats, with other dogs they are a bit frightened and will usually ignore them. Both are housetrained and know commands such as sit, stay, down, come, and Maggie knows how to shake a paw. They sleep together in a crate at night, and tend to go into their crate on their own to cuddle. These 2 must be adopted together as they are very bonded. They are lap dogs and really just want a nice lap to sit on. Maggie can only walk for around 15 minutes before she gets tired. Squirt can walk for longer. But these are not dogs that need a lot of exercise. Toy poodles tend to live a long time, up to 18 years or more, so these 2 have a lot of years left in them. Their former owners took very good care of them, and we have all the vet records to pass on to their new owners, as well as their sleeping crate, beds, leashes, coats, etc. The adoption fee for both of them is $450.

Frida
FUZZY FRIDA is around 6 years old and
weighs 12 kilos. She is a super
lovely and lovable girl. She would suit a
moderately active home where she can
receive at least daily walks and preferably where someone is home
for the majority of the day, perhaps with a retired person or couple. She is a very loyal companion and has assumed the role of the wise
middle-aged matriarch with other dogs. If you are
looking for a sweet dog to dote on and one
that will adore you in return, this girl is for you.
She wants to know where you are at all times.
She's great on leash, has some curiosity around
cats, is good with children. Frida has received an injury or has a birth
defect in her right eye which causes her no discomfort.
Fuzzy Frida was saved by a witness who saw two young women attempting
to kill her by hanging her from a tree.

Minita
Minita is a spayed female labrador cross weighing around 23 kilos and is 8 months old. She is a beautiful dog with a luxurious deep brown coat. Minita is doing great in her foster care in Courtenay where she lives with another dog in the household. .
Minita is initially cautious with adults but soon warms up and is really friendly once the initial hello is over with. She is a little defensive in the presence of children but she is being slowly socialized and her confidence being built with this issue. She will also need some work with barking and recall.

Minita enjoys walking in the woods, running after her foster parents on their mountain bikes and experiencing new things, jumping and rolling in the deep snow. Minita enjoys a pet and loves to sit on laps whilst falling asleep. She is learning to give paw, lie down and is slowly grasping the concept of come...with the help of some tasty treats!
Although she needs some confidence building Minita is a lovely dog, so much fun to be around and we hope that she finds a permanent home soon.

Cina
Breed: shepherd/lab mix
Sex: spayed female
Age: 2 to 3 years
Weight: 52 lbs.
Cina came to us after being rescued out of a high-kill facility in the U.S. She had been abused, neglected and was suffering from an extreme case of mange. After spending one month in a vet hospital where she won the hearts of everyone who met her, Cina was brought to VA dog rescue.
We've watched her slowly regain her confidence in the human race and are thankful she's giving us a second chance.
Its now time for her to find a human companion who will continue to give her the love, patience and training she needs. Included in Cina's adoption is a set of training classes with trainer Darcie Jennings of http://www.communicanine.ca . These lessons are mandatory to ensure Cina's success in her new home. For Cina's story go to Carol's Blog
Trainers notes by Darcie Jennings:
Cina is such a wonderful girl. She’s a medium sized dog with a medium to medium/low level of energy and very nice build – the perfect dog for a person or couple who like to get out every day for a good hike or run, but that know how to relax at the end of the day. Everywhere she goes she gets complimented on what a pretty girl she is.
Her biggest pitfall is that she is fearful of people and certain loud noises. Because of this, she will need an owner who is understanding of her issues, but who wants to help her overcome them, rather than nurture them. This will take time – a minimum of months – and she may always have a tendency towards shying away from things she is uncertain of. However, she is incredibly attentive to me when we’re out training together which is excellent because when she is afraid of something/someone and doesn’t know what to do, she will look up to whoever has the leash for feedback on how she should respond. Despite her fear, she is really interested in her surroundings and always shows an interest in interacting with new things/people and recovers quickly when she spooks, which makes me believe she has excellent potential for working past a lot of the fear she currently has.
The perfect owner for Cina is someone who will be patient, calm and non-reactive with her, even when she is showing fear. The right owner will also be someone who can see her potential and is willing to put in the time and effort it will take to bring it to fruition.

Elvis
This is Elvis!!! This teeny, tiny little boy is an absolute doll!! He weighs about 7lbs but needs to put on a few more pounds. He is 8 years old, which is the perfect age. He is passed all the chewing, nipping and going potty in the house! He is mature and calm and so easy going and still has the best years of his life to give to you. Elvis has vision impairment due to cataracts. He gets around fine and you would not know he has any vision impairment other than the rare bump into unseen objects in his peripheral vision. We were completely unaware at first. He is very gentle, cautious (due to his vision), and friendly. He gets along really well with dogs, but is not sure (yet) about our cat. At this point he wants to chase him. It will probably only take a few days to accept our cat as one of the pack. He LOVES to be up on your lap and held like baby. He will sit happily there for ages or until you have to get up. He just wants to be close to you and will often sit upright on our lap to have his face close to yours. He is GREAT on the leash. He walks right beside you and does not pull at all. He is happy to go out for a 5 minute walk or for half an hour, as long as you put his coat on. He needs to go to a home where someone is home most of the time and where someone can guide him when he is unsure. He is a low energy little boy and does not need a lot as far as walks go. He has TONS of love to give and bonds very quickly if you hold him and scratch his little tummy. If you have any questions about this awesome little guy, please email the rescue or call call foster mom Fiona @ 778 426 2634 (that is a Victoria number). He will be ready to go to his new home in the middle of Feb, once he has recovered from his neutering and being in the shelter.

Cesar
Breed: mastiff x
Sex: neutered male
Age: 1 year
Weight: n/a
Cesar is a neutered 1 yr old mastiff x. He came in as a stray from the CRD pound.
Cesar needs to go to a home without other dogs unless female, no cats and no small children. He is a happy boy but can be overbearing and hyper. He may knock small children over and chase cats. He gets along well with most dogs at his foster home and is well socialized with people. Since he so large and playful, he requires somebody who will be consistent with his training and can handle him as he is very strong. He loves water and is eager to learn. He could possibly be a great competitive obedience dog as he is so willing to work and please his owner. Cesar is a high energy boy who needs lots of exercise and playtime. He is very sweet and loveable and will make a great companion for somebody willing to put the time in for him.
Cesar has had a professional behaviour assessment completed and the results are as follows:
Cesar is a young, confident adolescent Mastiff X looking for a new home. The ideal home for Cesar is one with active, large breed experienced owners. If frequenting the dog park is your thing – Cesar is not the guy for you. Cesar plays appropriately with most dogs however, he will take on male dogs that challenge him. Pretty typical of teenage boys but this isn’t a behaviour we want him practicing! Cesar reportedly shows an unhealthy interest in cats so a home with no cats, small furry creatures or livestock is a must.
A big plus for Cesar is that he is an absolutely sweet with people. He exhibits no body handling issues and loves nothing more than to have his belly rubbed. Because of his size and zest for life though, a home with no small children is essential. He has good obedience skills and is a very willing worker. He responds incredibly well to reward based training and would do well in rally, obedience or tracking. I wouldn’t recommend agility due to his size/build. He has reportedly displayed some leash reactivity towards other dogs – with additional training I believe this will be easily resolved. Ideally Cesar will be the only dog in his new home. He could likely live peacefully with a large breed female dog [this would be assessed by our trainer]. He is an active boy so will need an active owner[s] to take him swimming, hiking, mountain biking etc. Continued training is also a must for this guy to get him through his teenage period.

Stanley
Breed: precious pittie
Sex: Neutered Male
Age: 2 years
Weight: n/a
Stanley is a 2 year old neutered male. He is also a bit of a celebrity, although he doesn't know it. While the world watches his video, he spends his time destuffing toys and proving that even the most durable Kong is no match for him.
Stanley is VERY dog social. He loves everyone he meets and is great with kids. We don't know if he's good with cats, but we will be testing him soon. He gets excited when he sees other dogs on leash but we are working with him on that as he redirects easily.
Stanley was a stray on the streets of L.A. before coming into our care, and it's possible that he's never spent much time in a house. While he is mostly house trained, he needs someone to fine tune this. If he is given the choice, he'd rather go outside! He needs some work with little things, for example, Stanley is just learning to navigate flights of stairs!
Stanley will be having eye surgery soon to correct a rather irritating problem and is still undergoing treatment for mange. He is slowly gaining back the weight he lost on the streets. Once his eye surgery is done and free and clear, he'll be ready to enter his new home. Stanley is currently living in foster with a 5 year old boy and 3 other dogs.
We are now taking applications for Stanley's adoption
Please read about Stanley's story on the blog on our website!

Elsie
Breed: precious pittie
Sex: spayed female
Age: 3 years
Weight: 50 to 55 lbs
Polite, friendly and calm, Elsie is one of those dogs who will fit seamlessly into your household. She’s completely house-trained, crate-trained, non-destructive and very eager-to-please.
Elsie is three years old and was inexplicably abandoned by her first family. We can’t understand why. She is a little social butterfly and just loves people – giving kisses indiscriminately. She’d rather have cuddles than just about anything, though a tug toy comes a close second.
While not overly interested in dogs, Elsie has been very friendly and tolerant with those she has met – even a grouchy roommate in her foster home. As with most dogs, her owner should be prepared to provide slow, controlled introductions to new canine friends. Elsie has no intention of starting trouble, but she’s a confident girl and will respond if challenged.
Elsie would have no problem sharing a house with other dogs, but cats are not a great idea.
A bit of obedience training and work on leash manners would be great for Elsie, but in most respects she is a ready-made dog. She’d do well in just about any family environment as long as she has lots of human companionship, a moderate amount of exercise, and clear rules to follow.
If you think you could offer Elsie the home she deserves, please fill out an application today!

Kilo
Kilo is 2 year old Pit Bull mix. If you show him rules and boundaries you will have an amazing dog. He is currently fostered with 2 other dogs and 2 children and is doing wonderfully. He loves to play . If you are looking for a large, dog social boy to add to your family, Kilo is your man!
Update from foster family
After just one week of being with our family, Kilo has made himself at home. At 2 yrs of age he acts like a 6 month pup!He is super curious and VERY playful. The ball seems to be his favorite thing to play with,he is great at playing soccer and amazes us at his dexterity. It's truely amazing to watch. He is very submissive (no aggressive)towards both people and dogs. Kilo is super affectionate and is always at our feet wanting to please. He knows the basics for commands, such as sit, lay down etc. On a leash Kilo tries to be the leader, but does listen good and with some work he will be great in no time. We were warned that Kilo has shown seperation anxiety and has even been known to chew. Since he has been with us we are happy to report that nothing of ours has been destroyed. We tend to only leave him for short periods of time allowing him to adjust and feel confident being alone. We also know from having 2 other dogs that a tired dog is a good dog, so Kilo not only gets walked, but run hard EVERYDAY. He shows great manners, listens well and is house trained, he whines at the door togo out when needs be.Kilo is also REALLY good with children, as we have two ages 5 and 8. Overall we have all become fond of Kilo and he's fit right into family life. Kilo will need someone who can provide him security of his seperation anxiety, and not leaving him for long periods of times and giving confidence of being alone. Baby steps some would say.

Sophie & her pups
Pups: Alice, Izzy, Max, Rasputin, Roxy Sophie was abandoned in the woods just days away from giving birth. Very pregnant and in need of a warm, safe place to have her pups, Sophie made it through a network of dog lovers and into the RespectABull program. She was on her way to stay with our family in Port Alberni, but Sophie couldn't wait. While staying with one of our dedicated fosters, Sophie began to show signs of labour. She did a great job, but ran into trouble when she couldn't birth one of the pups. Sophie was taken to the vet where she had an emergency c-section. She is now the proud mom to 2 boys and 4 girls!
Sophie remains in foster care where she can gain weight herself and take care of her pups. Sophie is a wonderful dog, and it's amazing to think that anyone could give her up. She's shown no aggression during her whole process, and seems to love every human, dog and cat that she meets.
We are accepting donations to help pay for Sophie's c-section and care. Any amount is most appreciated!

Rusty
This is Rusty. He appears to be a shih tzu cross, and weighs about 20 pounds. Unfortunately, Rusy had to be completely shaved down due to matting. He looks a bit funny right now, but his hair will grow back. He doesn't appear to have any formal training, but is already learning to 'sit' and lay 'down', and to get 'off' the couch when he's told. He's also pretty good on a leash, doesn't pull much, unless he finds something interesting to sniff. He is also crate trained, and currently sleeps in his crate at night. He doesn't have any food aggression or toy aggression, but he does want to be the dominant dog in the house. He also seems to like kids - he's met several on our walks and likes to let them pet him |
Luna
This is Luna. She is a senior girl of 13 years old that showed up at the shelter. She was in horrific condition, she had a tumour on her head the size of a golf ball, skin problems, kennel cough, and desperately needed a teeth cleaning. We have done surgery to remove the tumour ( which was not cancerous), treated her skin problems, and given her a teeth cleaning. She has cataracts in her eyes, she seems to see ok though.
As far as this little ones personality, she is friendly and fairly good with other dogs, although sometimes can be a bit snappy with them. She is good with cats and just ignores them. She is has separation anxiety, and barks whenever I leave her in a room to go to another room. She also whines and barks when I leave her to go out of the house. Eventually once she realizes I'm really gone from the house, she settles to sleep. So ideally she should be with someone who is around alot, and you would need to be ready to deal with this as for a little dog she can bark quite loudly. We would really like her to go to a nice home for her final years.

Dane
Feb 1 Update: Dane has come so far! The resilence of dogs is amazing! He has become a trusting and happy boy and greets strangers happily. He seeks out attention and often comes over and puts the gentlest paw on your lap for a pet. He walks nicely on leash, loves car rides and meeting dogs on walks. He plays very well with our other dogs as well. In the house he is content to lie in his bed ... or which ever bed is closest to his people. He sits by peacefully now while we cut his nails or put in his ear drops, and seems to enjoy any attention, including being dressed up by our daughter. Daners in still a little unsettled by loud noises or voices, but recovers immediately.
He would do well in a quiet household, without small children, that appreciates a gentle sweet soulful companion. He has met all types of animals, and showed no reactivity to any of them.
Dane is a 2 year old neutered male. He is a Taiwan Formosan mix and defintely striking. This poor guy was rescued off the streets of Taichung by the TUAPA shelter as a young pup. He was then brought to Canada by another group that was not committed to his rehabilitation. He was unfortunately bounced around when they had trouble with his fearful nature, and of course this only increased his anxiety.
We have now claimed Dane and he has been placed in an experienced foster home for rehabiltation. He truly wants to be with people and likes to be rubbed and stroked, he just doesn't trust quick movements or having his collar grabbed. His absolute favorite human, a teenage girl, can do anything with him and he feels very secure and happy with her. Now we are working to get him trusting humans in general, and he will stay in this dedicated home until that day comes!
When Dane has gained trust and confidence he will be available for adoption. Click on green bar below for contact info. |
