Bowser

Hello everyone, my name is Bowser. I am a young, happy-go-lucky boy who is hoping to find a forever home with another dog to keep me company. I love to play with dogs and toys, but am still quite puppy-like so will do best in a home without cats or young children (under the age of 15.) I will do anything for food, and already know how to sit, stay, lie down, and come. A fenced yard is a requirement for my adoption, as is an owner with lots of love and time to give. I have been working with a trainer from See Spot Sit Dog Training to get me ready for adoption. My adoption includes one private session with the trainer that I have been working with.

Angel

GORGEOUS STRAWBERRY BLONDE SEEKS NEW HUMAN COMPANION I'm a great little gal just 6 yrs (in people years). I'm a slim, healthy, cuddly type.

If you like sleeping late, going walkies, watching soaps or black and white movies, car rides and even enjoy a nap; you are just my type..

I'm alert so no there's need for a burglar alarm, I like other nice dogs although I am a diva who would enjoy all the attention. I'm very clean so no messes to clean up.

I do prefer a mature relationship so little kids may not be the best for me.

If you're ready for true love please email koha17@shaw.ca with the title 'Angel'

Angel is a Second Chances Rescue dog.

Bella Noche

Bella Noche was rescued from a high kill shelter in the southern
USA.  As with many Mosaics it is hard to tell what breed mix she
might be.  Our best guess is spitz/border collie/something smaller.
She is about 2 years old and weighs 20-25lbs.  Bella is an
affectionate playful girl who can be shy with new people until she
gets to know them.  After that she's all for belly rubs and cuddles.
Bella is good with other dogs and we think she will be fine with cats
as well. Small children can be a bit overwhelming for dogs like Bella
so an adult home is preferred.   Bella Noche is a Mosaic Rescue
dog.  For more information on her and the adoption process see
www.mosaicrescue.ca or click on the banner below.

Juno

Juno - Golden Lab X;  male neutered;  2 years old; 90 lbs; excellent health

Juno is truly a delightful laid back dog.  Juno has had a stressful transition down to Victoria after being tied up for long periods on a short rope.  In spite of that this goofy guy relaxed right into our leash training with him, trusting completely, and ran happily with our pack galloping along playfully with them.  Juno has bonded well with his foster Mom – he loves to be with his people.  Juno is great with older children, though may be a bit big for small toddlers.  We are unsure about his reaction to cats.  Juno needs some obedience training, but is very biddable and eager to please.  The 5 lessons that his adoption fee includes with Geoff Cooke of Last Chance Dog Services will build the bond with his new owner and soften up his rougher edges.

Juno would be a great family dog and would do well with a companion dog.  Juno has some separation anxiety, so would be best with someone who is home most of the time and who can commit to training him to be confident when left alone

Juno is a Last Chance Rehoming dog.

Bogie

Bogie is a 4/5 year old lab X that came to us a stray and remained
unclaimed. He is a nice boy that can use some training and exercise. Bogie
has been fine with the dogs he meets but is best suited as an only dog. He
would also prefer a non cat home. Bogie loves to play ball and would be a
great addition to a home without small children where he can get some
regular exercise.

Max

Max is a handsome young pittie boy who was returned due to the fact he
likes to roam. He is a sweet boy but needs a secure yard to play in so he
doesn't go for walks on his own. Max is okay with cats.
The picture suits him best as you don't see him often without a ball hanging out of his mouth! Max would like an active
family so he can keep his trim fit figure. Please research the breed before
coming to meet this gorgeous boy. Previous Pittie experience preferred.

Tilly

Tilly was rescued from a high kill shelter in the southern USA. She
has been described as a dachshund mix though she doesn't have the
short legs and extra long body that one might expect with that. Who
knows what breeds might be part of her makeup. She is 2.5 years old
and weighs about 20lbs. She's small enough to get through the cat
door and picket fence but only leaves in search of her southern foster mom.  She's an affectionate little girl who wants to be
with.  Tilly is great with dogs and cats but isn't terribly comfortable around young children so she's looking for an adult home.
Tilly will be coming to the Victoria area in early May.  Applications are being accepted in advance of her arrival.
Tilly is a Mosaic Rescue dog. For more information on her and the adoption process see www.mosaicrescue.ca or click the banner below.

Arnie

Is a very sweet, slightly shy fellow.  He is good with other dogs and with cats.  Arnie has spent time  with a family and their other dog, a cat and 2 children. Arnie has shown great progress in the one month he has been in Canada, becoming more social and confident. Arnie can be a bit introverted around new people, but warms up soon. Arnie is seven months old, neutered, and vaccinated.  He would do best in a home with people at home a lot of the time, at least at first, and with another canine buddy as his "security blanket".

He should receive at least daily playtimes with other dogs and lots of encounters with humans in order to continue with his already awesome progress in adjusting to life at a loved pet.  If you can give Arnie the patience, time, socialization and love he needs please contact us.  Adoption application can be downloaded from our website at www.mex-can.org

Ruby

Ruby is a darling girl of six months to one year of age.She stands about 20 inches high at the shoulders and weighs about 40 pounds so she is not a large dog and will not grow much more. Ruby is spayed, vaccinated and de-wormed. Ruby is missing the "ball" of the "ball and socket" joint in her right hip. Although she loves to play with other dogs she will need primarily leash walks only for a while until the muscles build up and strengthen the area. Ideal exercises include walking up hills and walking on sand. Ruby is a very affectionate and friendly dog that is eager to give you licks and lots of love. She would do well in a household where she has another canine pal or someone is home for half-days. She has lived with cats. Please contact marlene@mex-can.org or download our application form on our website.

Ayla

Ayla is an 11 lb spayed female Chihuahua mix. She is about three years old and is in good health. Ayla is a happy-go-lucky girl who really just wants to be everybody's friend. She is cuddly and snuggly and her tail is always wagging! She has a lot of energy for walks and play time. She's got a great appetite and loves her food. Prior to coming into our care, Ayla had been neglected and had likely missed many meals. She was quite underweight and was very protective of her food. Her protectiveness of food has improved a lot now that she knows the meals will keep coming.

Due to her past history, Ayla can be fearful in certain situations. She will need a special person who will take the time to earn her trust. Because of her fearfulness, a home where small children live or visit often would not be appropriate for Ayla. Ayla needs to be walked on leash because she has the potential to bolt when scared. She would be happiest in a home where someone has lots of time to spend with her. She likes to be warm and she loves sleeping under the covers curled up next to you. When you are working or relaxing she's happy to nap next to you.

Ayla has a pretty loud bark for a little dog, but she's not a yappy girl. She likes other dogs, but she wouldn't mind being the only pet in the house. Ayla had never seen a cat prior to coming into our care, but she quickly adapted. She's more interested in her person than cats or other dogs. She'll soak up all the attention you can provide! Ayla isn't the easiest dog to train, but she is adorable, goofy and sweet; she'll make you laugh every day!

Ayla is spayed, micro-chipped, tattooed and up to date with her vaccinations. She has recently had her teeth buffed and polished. Ayla is a Furever After Rescue dog.

Bambi

Bambi is a 3-4 year old spayed female Miniature Pinscher who has come from a neglectful situation. Up until now, her life experiences have been quite limited, so she tends to be fearful of new people and new situations. She is looking for someone who will be patient and take the time to earn her trust. Bambi's confidence will continue to grow on a daily basis with gradual introductions to new people and new situations. Once she knows that she can trust you, she is a total love-bug! Due to Bambi's history, a home with small children would not be a good match for her.

Bambi is looking for a home where someone has lots of time to spend with her---she has spent WAY too much time alone in the past and she deserves to be showered with attention and affection from now on! She would like a securely fenced yard where she can run and play safely. Due to her fear issues, she has a tendency to bolt when she hears a sudden noise or is startled, so she will need to be walked on-leash.

Bambi was not house-trained when she came into our care. She is learning very quickly, but may still have occasional accidents and will need lots of opportunities to be taken outside.

Bambi is spayed, tattooed, micro-chipped, up to date with her vaccinations and she has recently had her teeth buffed and polished.
Bambi is a Furever After Rescue dog.

Taiter

Taiter was found in a busy pound sandwiched between kennels of Chihuahua puppies who were getting all the attention. Taiter was overlooked as he quietly watched person after person walk past him to visit with the rambunctious puppies. As a senior, Taiter's chances at adoption weren't good, especially with all the adoptable puppies available. He'd found himself at the shelter not as a stray but because his guardian had passed away and he had nowhere else to go. He'd clearly been someone's treasured companion for many years and he seemed so out of place. Taiter was brought into foster care with Furever After and he is excited to be in a loving home again, but he needs a permanent place to retire.

Taiter is a special guy (yes, we know we say that about a lot of dogs!). He's got a whole lot of love to give and maybe only one 'issue'. Here's the good news:

- He loves to be held, touched, groomed, and generally fawned over
- He's friendly with other dogs and people
- He plays well with other small dogs
- He plays with and 'talks to' his toys--- very cute!
- He wants to be in your company all the time; he'll never get tired of looking at you!
- He has a great appetite
- He is healthy, active and has good teeth
- He's a great watch dog
- He gets so happy to see you that he wags half his body!
- He loves walks and car rides
- He likes baths! He'll ask to hop in with you and after a towel dry, he likes a blow dry
- Once he's attached to you, you'll be the best thing in his world and he'll never let you forget it.

The one thing about Taiter that some people might not enjoy is that he's a bit of a barker. He gets excited about supper and excited to see you, and all the other regular things that make dogs bark but he seems to have a hard time knowing when to stop. We're working on improving and shortening the outbursts, but in the meantime an apartment won't be suitable for this happy guy. Taiter responds well when you divert his attention and ask him to 'sit' rather than ignoring his barking. He's used to getting a response when he demands your attention. He's improved a great deal during the time he's been in foster care.

Taiter would love to be a part of a home where his person is home all day. He'll want to snuggle with you at night, too. He's a great little guy with a lot of personality so if you think you are ready to be adored, Taiter might be just what you need. Really, he'll think you are the BEST thing in the universe and he'll let you know!

Taiter is neutered, tattooed, microchipped, up to date with his vaccinations and has recently had his teeth buffed and polished.
Taiter is a Furever After Rescue dog.

JD

Bio for J.D. by Geoff Cooke of Last Chance Dog Services

Breed: Shepherd Yellow Lab X  Sex: Female (spayed) Age: 2 years  Weight: 35lbs  Shots: up to date

JD had a difficult beginning in life and ended up at the CRD Animal Shelter about a year ago. She was adopted to a family who now cannot keep her. Although she was extremely timid so long ago, I knew that she wanted to engage with people.  JD has soldiered on courageously facing objects and situations that had been of great concern to her. Brooms were her nemesis.  Not one was safe to carry out its duties with JD on guard. In time she learned that ‘Broom’ meant no harm to her and was only there to work with JD’s master. One demon down and several to go but plucky little JD was up for the challenge even if only in the eyes of her trainer. At present she is very suspicious of the kitchen fan and the dog next door. With each challenge our girl is showing progress.

JD’s eagerness to please gives her the will to step up to her fears and with continued calm assertive support from her present and future owners she will be a happy well adjusted dog soon.
Her basic obedience is very nice when distractions are moderate to low. She is very gentle with children, her house manners are good, barking is minimal and she rides well in the car unless the house fan’s cousin starts up in it. JD has no separation anxiety and can be left alone without incident.

I recommend that JD be re-homed with an active person (perhaps single as she prefers to bond to one person) who will run or hike with her. Until she has been fully socialized it would be best that she doesn’t share a home with another dog. JD is a lovely affectionate girl who will make someone a very loyal friend.

JD’s owners will include a full set of 8 obedience lessons with Last Chance for her adoption fee of $150.

Toby

My name is Toby and I'm a male maltese senior. I need a new home because my family had health problems and could no longer look after me. I have lived with my half sister all my life but she has gone to live with a new family now.

I'm good with people and other polite dogs. I don't know too much about cats.

I like car rides and walks too. I'm a quiet guy who loves to cuddle up and watch a good movie. At just 8.3 pounds, I don't take up much room on the couch!

My perfect home would have somebody who is home most of the time or would take me with them on outings. I'm too small to live with little children but a visit now and again would be fine.

If I sound like the perfect companion for you, please email .

Toby is a Second Chances Rescue dog. Email address in yellow bar below for an application or more information.

She is a perfect blank slate as far as training goes but is highly food-motivated and very eager to please. Her pups found their homes long ago, and somehow poor Zoey has been overlooked.

Abby

Abby is a fearless puppy, she is outgoing and social and would do well in an active home with another active dog. She knows sit, down, and is learning to leave it, come, and to walk on the leash nicely. Her problem is that she just loves everyone and will drag you to any person or dog because she wants to visit . She is great in the car too. Her crate training is coming along,  Her house training is good but not complete, as she needs to go out right after a meal. She hasn't learned to TELL you when she has to go. Alone in the house is typical, she is a puppy and will clean up your dishes, garbage and give you an excuse to buy new shoes if you leave them out. Maggie

Bio by trainer Geoff Cooke
Border Collie/Lab/Shepherd X 18 months Female

Maggie is truly one of the most adorable dogs that we have had come through Last Chance. Maggie has bright alert eyes and a cheerful demeanor. Maggie has been obedience trained since a small puppy and is very eager to please. She can be a bit nervous with new dogs, but was soon running with our pack having a great time. Maggie will chase cats and wildlife, is very settled in the house and is crate trained. Maggie has not been tested with children.

Because of her nervousness, Maggie should go to someone with dog experience. She would be great as an only dog if she gets lots of exercise and attention but we think she would enjoy the fun of a companion dog. We highly recommend that Maggie continue her obedience training with her new owner to help build her new bond and to continue to bring the best out of this lovely girl.

Maggie is a Last Chance Rehoming Service dog.

Guero

An adult male dog (approx 4 years) that is looking for a home where he can just hang out and go for occasional walks.  He was found as a stray with what appears to be an old injury on his left hind leg.  He does have a limp, but he uses this leg just fine and can walk and run without a problem.  Guero likes to guard his territory and can be aggressive with dogs that come onto his turf, especially male dogs.  However, he responds very well to a firm, strong voice command.  He would do well in a home with another dog that he likes or as an only dog.  He is currently being fostered in a home with one other male and 3 female dogs.  He is very patient with puppies.  Guero is a really sweet, talkative guy, neutered and vaccinated, weighing around 25 kilos. Guero is a Mex-Can Rescue dog.

ADOPTIVE OR FOSTER FAMILY NEEDED! NEED TO BE PLACED SEPARATELY Name:  Logan (plain fawn) & Lievio (pronounced Lee vee oo) (flashy fawn) Age: Mar. 22 2006 (almost 2 yrs) Dogs: Submissive females (need socialization work) Cats: Unknown Kids: yes (currently live with an infant)

Logan and Lievio have lived together all their lives.  Like a lot of teenage boys though these two aren't seeing eye to eye these days.  Because of this it is time for the boys to part ways and start a new life with new families.  They have been very much loved and cared for, they are crate trained, house trained and know some basic commands (sit, stay, down).  They are used to being walked on a Gentle Leader as they are both strong on the leash.  Both boys love playing with their toys and are great swimmers for those of you who enjoy the water!!!   The boys ware looking for families who can commit training time to them.     Socialization and pack leadership are a must for these two boys!  They are very sweet and will make great companions for families who are willing to commit to them.Click on "Adopt Information" below for contact information. Raser

Name: Raser
Sex: Neutered Male
Age: 1 Year

Raser is a handsome lad who came into the shelter as a stray. We are not sure of his history, but he is slow to trust and scares easily at any quick movement. He wants to be around people and has slowly come around to those people he sees daily. With patience, and love, he will become a confident boy and hopefully overcome his fear of the world. We estimate that he is about a year old, and likely a Rotti cross. Raser has been spending time with some rather bossy females and loves to have the company.  He would be best suited to a home with another dog.

Chips

Chocolate lab/Heeler X  Female/Spayed  8 years old   60 lbs.

Chips is a sweet, medium sized dog that found herself in a home with 3 large dogs and 4 cats.  Chips found this all too stressful so was not living life to its full potential.  Chips is now in foster care with only a cat to compete for the affection of her foster parents and is much more settled.  Because Chip didn’t get on well with the other dogs in her household she was walked alone giving her minimal contact with other dogs and people.  This little sweetheart has been coming to our obedience classes and is now running with our pack of 8 to 10 dogs quite happily, though, she can still be nervous when a dog challenges her.  Consistent reassurance has been helping her come out of her shell.  Chips obedience is good, though she needs continued work walking on a leash.

Chips settles well in the house and can be left alone.  She has a lovely soft coat and will gladly accept any and all petting that comes her way.  Chips would be best as an only dog, though would be fine with a cat.  Chips new people should continue her obedience lessons and socialization in order for her to be a happy, balanced lady.  Chips adoption fee includes 3 obedience lessons with Geoff Cooke of Last Chance Dog Services.

Natasha

Bio for Natasha by trainer Geoff Cooke.

Lab/Pointer X  Age:  8.5 years    Female/spayed   Weight:  85 lbs    Vaccinations up to date.

Natasha is a quiet dog who, through no fault of her own, finds herself in an active household that challenges her aging sensibilities.  Being of ‘baby boomer’ age (with an attitude of “been there, done that”) – Natasha would enjoy a quiet home with someone who can be her companion for quiet evenings after long walks together.  Natasha will chase cats and wildlife and would do best as an only dog.  She loves her leash walks and adores her people, so settles well in the house after enough exercise.  The usual city stuff will set her off – bicycles, skateboards and motorcycles, so a quieter environment away from it all would suit Natasha best.  Natasha has recently displayed some separation anxiety, but we believe that is all a result of all of the activity in her household right now, and should settle down to short times left alone.

Natasha is a lovely dog who would do well with a single person or couple who can dote on her.  Natasha is a bit rusty in her obedience and would benefit from the socialization of a group class setting. Natasha is a Last Chance Rehoming dog.

Tuffy

A three-year-old neutered male black and white Shih Tzu mix. He is a happy-go-lucky dog who loves everyone and everything. He has lots of energy and needs several good walks per day to keep him happy and healthy. He loves to play with other dogs and would prefer a home with a friendly canine playmate.

Tuffy is deaf and was likely born that way, so he has adapted very well and he is always looking to his person for direction. However, certain precautions will need to be taken in order to keep him safe. A securely fenced yard would be preferred and Tuffy will need to be walked on-leash unless he's in an enclosed area. Interactions with new dogs will need to be supervised, as Tuffy can't hear "warning" growls and he tries to play with every dog he meets. A family that is interested in pursuing hand signal training would be preferred.

Tuffy is neutered, tattooed, up-to-date with his vaccinations and has recently had some dental care completed. He will also be microchipped prior to adoption.Click on "Adopt Information" below for contact information. Tuffy is a Furever After Rescue dog.

Maxine

I’m a very sweet, loving 10+ dog.My first home must have abandoned me, because I was picked up by the pound. No one ever came to claim me, which left me very sad and stressed in the kennels. I’m very good with older children and other dogs but I would prefer a cat-less home. I love people and enjoy when you shower your love and attention on me.

. The vet gave me a thorough going over and I do have arthritis so I need someone to keep me on a good food full of glucosamine. Some extra vitamins with glucosamine would be great too. Other than that I’m very healthy for my age. I still enjoy my short walks in the neighborhood.

Please consider me to be part of your family. I promise to give you all the love I can give and in return all I ask is that you love me back. I need the comfort of a warm home and gentle touch. Just look into my eyes... you know you will love me." Maxine is a Greater Victoria Animals Crusaders dog.

Sidney

Sidney is a very sweet 5yo, spayed female boxer. She is on the smaller side at 50 pounds, 18" at the shoulders and her nose isn't as short as most, but she is all boxer. She is a sensitive girl that would do better in a home with older childern that can respect her space. She would love to join in all the activites but when it gets too rambuctious, she gets nervous. She currently lives with an older male dog, hasn't lived with a cat but could probably be easily trained to leave the cat alone. She has suffered from a yeast infection in her ears and on her feet. We feel it is allergy and stress related and her current diet change has shown some improvement. Hernew family will need to continue to monitor this and be willing to provide an appropriate diet for her. Sidney is update on all her vaccinations.
