Lou has an adoption pending

Breed: Terrier mix
Sex: spayed female
Age:5 years

Lou was pulled from Fresno ASPCA which, unfortunately is the 2nd highest kill shelter in the U.S. She is one of the lucky ones.
Lou is a sweet, gentle little dog who is looking for a home where someone will give her the love, walks and attention she so well deserves.
She will return your affection ten-fold.

Mila's comments:

This gal is very calm and serene.  She is good on the leash, no pulling.  Needs work on keeping up!  The little rolly polly of sweetness is food motivated.  She would be fine on her own for a while.  Sleeps when you go and wants to love you when you get back.  Great in the car, doesn't bounce around, stays where she is put. Lou is looking for someone to let her on their lap, or at their feet, just to be with you.  She looks at everyone with love and welcome.  She does great with other dogs.  When two of the other, younger, dogs were playing Lou came over to my feet and sat.  We sat at the window, content to look out while the boys played.

Keith Richards

Breed: terrier mix
Sex: Male
Age: 4 years
Weight: approx 9lbs

Mila's comments: Keith Richards is a little dog. He rolls on his back when you show affection and sits pretty for treats.  He is very agile.  He would do great with more training in that area.  Seems house trained. He needs work on "telling" when he needs to go but goes once outside.  He's got a great sense of humor and will make you laugh with his little mohawk hair.

He likes to be with his people, will sit on the pillow watching the kitchen operations.  He will settle down in the car after a few minutes.  He needs a confident leader in his life, someone to train with him on his leash manners, the house rules, and good dog behaviour.  Quick learner Richards is, he copied my dog when we were doing "sit" and "down" exercises. He doesn't seem to recognize the spoken commands but will respond quickly to tone of voice and examples. He will bark at strangers.  If he is approached with a hand reaching towards him, he will blanch.  But if you let him be in the room with poeple he will be fine with affection within minutes.  He needs to know that they are safe by you first.

Minute

Breed: Husky/Shepherd mix
Sex: spayed female as per contract
Age: 9 weeks

We are looking for a home wherre someone is there most of the day, can take the dog to work with them or provide consistent doggy daycare. Minute is a young pup and needs the time, patience and attention you'd give a baby.

Foster mom's comments:

Hello everyone.  For those of you not already following my progress on Facebook, I am 'Minute', a Husky cross Shepherd puppy, and quite a darling, if I do say so myself. I was rescued along with my eight brothers and sisters at five and a half weeks, and as the "runt" of the litter I weighed only 1.1Kg.  Add to this a particularly nasty bacterial infection, and I have had a tough time in my short little life. But that's all over now, and thanks to my Auntie Lynn, my foster parents, and the nice folks at Elk Lake Veterinary Hospital, I now have a clean bill of health and I am ready to find my forever home.

As you can see, I am gorgeous.  Blonde, long-lashed, and beautifully marked - quite the princess.  I probably won't grow to be very big, but I definitely will be beautiful.  Probably because of my difficult start in life, I am a very determined little girl, and fearless, despite the fact that I am still quite tiny.  My two sisters, the cats and the big dogs in my house all know who is boss, and my nickname is "Miss Bossy Pants", although I prefer to think of myself as assertive. I am very affectionate with people, and I love to be cuddled, especially after a tiring play session when I will happily fall asleep in your arms. I am also playful and very smart, and I have picked up paper training and crate training like a star.

So, why don't you come and meet me? I guarantee that you will fall in love at first sight.  Did I mention that I am gorgeous...? Oh, you know that already, you're looking at me.

Sandy

Breed: Husky/Shepherd mix
Sex: spayed female as per contract
Age: 9 weeks

Hi, my name is Sandy.  I’m the little sister of Pebbles but don’t let my size fool you, I’m not scared of anything.  I’m a Husky Shepherd X too but I’m mainly dark with some blonde patches.   I’m super cute and full of energy but if you stop me and rub my belly, I’ll chill out.  I love my belly rubs.  I’ve been trained to do my business on newspaper and my accuracy is 100%.  I really like the big dog where I’m staying, I drive her nuts actually, but it’s fun.  I like the cats too, it’s hilarious when I try to lie on top of them and lick their ears (they hate it but they keep coming back for more).  I like to run around outside and steal sticks from my sister, she’ll tackle me after but that’s cool...I still keep the stick.  I’m really looking forward to when I’m ready for my forever home, only another week or so.  We’re going to have a blast together.

Honey

Name: Honey
Breed: Chihuahua X Corgi
Gender: Spayed Female
Age: 2 years

This little girl has TONS of personality and is looking for a home with an active family. She is a happy-go-lucky girl who wants nothing more than to play with her friends. She has a great sense of humor and likes to make you smile. Although Honey is spunky, she settles down well and is a great cuddler when it's time to relax.

Despite this girl's small size, Honey is a ball of energy and is always on the go; she can easily hike for hours. She is a real hunter and she loves to chase snakes, lizards, bugs & birds outside. Honey really enjoys learning and is very food motivated. Honey will be great for a person who is active and enjoys hiking, or who wants to partake in activities like agility competitions. It will be a requirement for whomever adopts her to enroll her in obedience training classes to help her get off on the right foot.

Honey's past is uncertain but she has some emotional scars that give us an idea of how she lived. She is more comfortable around women than men, and she shows some uncertainty around other dogs. She really enjoys the company of dogs that are submissive, low-key, or indifferent to her, but she can be uncomfortable around dogs that are assertive, bouncy, or dominant. Honey needs to go to a home with someone who has experience working with dogs that need to build confidence. Honey forms strong bonds very quickly and gets sad when she's left alone, therefore, she will be happiest with a family where someone is home for most of the day to spend time with her (perhaps someone who has recently retired, or who works from home) or where there is another dog to keep her company.  Honey is good around dog-savvy cats (indoors - she will chase them in they're outside) and
she's learning to be around children, although loud, energetic kids scare her.

If you'd like to learn more about Honey, please email us at victoriapets@gmail.com; she is currently in foster care.

Selene

Breed: Husky/shep mix
Sex: Spayed female as per contract
Age: Born Nov. 26th

Selene is a lively and energetic little girl who loves tug-of war games with her sisters and her foster parents. She can be a liitle mischevious, and pulls at her puppy pads or bedding when you are trying to change them in an attempt to engage you in a tugging game.

Selene loves people and is very cuddly, and happy to fall asleep on your lap or chest. She gets on well with the three cats and two older dogs in the home. She already knows to use her puppy pads, and is very smart so housebreaking should not be too difficult.

Please read our Adoption Info before applying:

Pebbles has an adoption pending

Hi, my name is Pebbles and I’ll tell you right now, when I grow up I’m going to be beautiful. I’m a Husky Shepherd X and my coat is almost all blonde with just few a darker areas on my back and tail. I love to play with my sister Sandy, run around outside and chew on sticks. I am totally paper-trained but I prefer to whine so you can let me outside to pee. I like cats and they seem fine with me too, but I can’t figure out why they jump away when I bite their tail. I like the big dog that I am staying with but when she gets running around I prefer to sit on the sidelines and watch. After some good playtime I really like to be cuddled and get some scratches...and yeah...I’ll kiss you (or chomp your nose). In about another week I’ll be ready to go to a forever home. Come and see me, I bet you won’t be able to resist.

Sex: spayed female
Age: approx. 1 year

Sophie is a "California Girl". She likes people, loves to walk, travels well in the car and likes small dogs. In her previous foster home she was great friends with a Chihuahua. She is fostered with bigger dogs and once she's introduced properly she is fine and doesn't feel threatened.

Lou

Lou was pulled from Fresno ASPCA which, unfortunately is the 2nd highest kill shelter in the U.S. She is one of the lucky ones.

Lous is a sweet, gentle little dog who is looking for a home where someone will give her the love, walks and attention she so well deserves. She will return your affection ten-fold.

Foster moms comments:

The little girl, we refer to as Lou, she is the happiest dog...most loving, gentle, wanting to be with an equally loving, gentle person....

She loves to be with my granddaughter and myself...and if only one of us is here Lou is just as happy, if she was a human I'm sure she would be asking "what can I do to help you?"

Ashley

Ashley 2 year old female

Meet Ashley! The beautiful 3 yr old cocker girl! She is a sweet, energetic gal who so desperately wants to be loved. She is a little shy when first meeting new people but it doesn't take long before she wants to come in really close to you for some cuddles and give you her belly for a rub. Ashley can be a bit anxious at times but we feel once she is  settled into a routine and a loving home of her very own that she will become a much calmer dog.  She has greatly improved at walking on the leash but still pulls a bit. She is learning some basic commands and is crate trained. At this point, it appears Ashley needs to be the only dog in the home as she does not get along with other dogs. We are hoping to work with her in this area once we have her basic obedience down to see if we can work through this issue with her.  Are you the special adopter ready to give Ashley the home of her dreams and willing to work with her on her socialization? She is so worth it.

Ashley is an Angels Under Our Wings Cocker Rescue dog. Please click on their link to access website and contact info.

Alphie

Alphie: 3 year old neutered ChiX, 12 pounds, though currently underweight.
Should be closer to 14-15.

Alphie is the most easy-going, cuddly little man ever. He likes all people and has a wagging tail at the door to greet you when you come home. We think he'd be good for gentle kids. Although he is crate-trained, he is happy to lounge on the couch while you're at work, and love you when you come home. Alphie is currently fostered with a quite a few other dogs, and although he has good social skills, we think he'd be happiest as an only dog, or with a calm small female. Alphie was saved last-minute from being put down in a high-kill shelter in the states.

For more information and application please contact Island Dogz
info@islanddogz.com

Alvin

Alvin: 2 year old neutered PB Chi, 6 pounds

Alvin is everything you either love or hate about a Chihuahua. He is funny, independent, playful, cuddly, but above all else, seems to think the world revolves around him. He is good with other dogs, big or small, but doesn't realize he can pester them with his silly Chihuahua quirks.
All Alvin needs is someone to love him, spoil him, and doesn't mind having a dog that wears clothes. He will fit in with ease anywhere.

For more information and application please contact Island Dogz
info@islanddogz.com

Kaiser

Kaiser: 1 year old Boxer X, with a pinch of Staffie, not quite 50 pounds

Kaiser's a very active, really playful boy who just wants attention. He's got his nose into everything and he's curious about everything you're doing. He's a bit of a rough player with other dogs and he does softly grab your hand in his mouth but not hard. These puppy manners are improving everyday. Kaiser is house trained, perfectly crate trained. He knows his name and comes with a loud whistle or "come here". He's a bit of a goof ball always wanting to squeak the ball or chase things rolling across the floor but he does calm down once you've said enough is enough and he loves laying down on the bed and snuggling for a bit. He also will greet you eagerly at the door. Kaiser needs an active person that will continue to socialize him with people and other dogs. He does have some bad associations to ballcaps, and can be reactive to them. It's possible he was abused by someone wearing a similiar hat in the past. With strong leadership and a commitment to the 'nothing in life is free' rule, Kaiser will be a fabulous pet. But please no cats!

EmmyLou

Breed: Dachshund/Rat Terrier (our best guess)
Sex: Spayed female
Age:  3 years
Weight: 18 lbs

EmmyLou, aka Emmy Lou Who, was rescued from a high kill pound in Arkansas.  Here's what her southern foster mom has to say about her:

"EmmyLou is cute as a bug! She has little dark eyes that make it hard to look away or ignore her - but who could do that! She has black prick ears a little larger than her head that stand straight up unless she is scared in which case they fold straight back. The end
of her muzzle turns up slightly which makes her even cuter! Her little tail has been broken in at least two places causing it to be crooked. It does not lift up like a normal canine tail but does not seem to cause her any discomfort or get in the way.

Spunky is probably not the descriptive that will come to mind when first meeting Emmylou as she will be scared and hesitant at first.
Her true personality blossoms once she feels secure. She's not a barker but she is able to speak her mind. When she comes in from outside or if she wants something, she has a strange way of expressing herself. It is a cross between smack talking and warbling like a bird. She warbles when she wants food! You see EmmyLou is very
focused on food and gobbles every meal as if it is her last. One could say she is very food motivated and is quite the energetic
acrobat when treats are offered. The rest of the time she is a pretty calm happy house dog.

If given the chance EmmyLou will quickly wiggle herself into your lap on the couch or in the crook of your arm in bed. She does like her crate but prefers a human bed. When your alarm clock goes off, she is ready to get up and greet the day whether you are ready to or not. She does not have "snooze button."

Emmylou is a lover. She is the queen of kisses and loves to cuddle in your lap at every opportunity. Once settled, she is quickly asleep and content. She is a people dog so would do best in a home where she could be with her human(s) most of the time.

EmmyLou has been spayed, vaccinated, thoroughly vetted and microchipped. All medical records are provided including parvo and distemper titers. For more information about EmmyLou, Mosaic Rescue and the adoption process go to www.mosaicrescue.ca or click on the

Mariah

Breed:  Flat Coated Retriever
Sex:  Spayed female
Age:  2 years
Weight: 60 lbs

Mariah was rescued from a high kill shelter in Arkansas and has spent the last couple of months in a multi dog and cat foster home. Her southern foster mom says: "She fit in right from the start, being very respectful of the cats, curious but respectful. She and Bella, one of the cats, have become great friends and love to groom each other. Mariah is a sweet, silly, smart, loving dog who with a little bit of training will make the perfect companion. And loyal, I don't think you will find a more loyal dog than she is. She has great recall, even if the other dogs are barking at something and I call her she will run away from them and come to me.

Mariah is still young, very active and enthusiastic. She tries to be gentle but I don't think she realizes her own strength. She still jumps a lot but we are working on that. She wants so much to be good, when you tell her to sit so she doesn't jump, she sits but her whole body just quivers with her wanting to jump and love on me.

Although Mariah is a retriever she doesn't retrieve. If I throw something for her she starts for it and then comes right back to me without going and getting it. She doesn't like to be away from me at all, not even for a minute. When we are in the yard she is right there by me at all times and the same in the house. She does however like her toys and will amuse herself with them in my absence. There is no problem leaving her alone in the house when I'm out."

There are young grandchildren living in Mariah's foster home. She loves them and has been learning to be less boisterous around them.
Because of her size and enthusiasm we think an active adult oriented home might be best though, one where she could get lots of one on one attention and get to be with her human(s)most of the time.

Mariah is a Mosaic Rescue dog.  She has been spayed, vaccinated, thoroughly vetted and microchipped. All medical records are provided including parvo and distemper titers.  For more information about Mariah, Mosaic Rescue and the adoption process go to www.mosaicrescue.ca or click on the banner below.

Java

Java is an 8 month old puppy who is ALL puppy.  Not only is Java highly intelligent, he is a quick study and not to mention....absolutely adorable.

Java knows how to sit, stay, come (sort of), and he is learning to shake a paw.  He also understands 'give it', when he has something he shouldn't have.

He knows he isn't allowed in the kitchen when food is being prepared, so he will wait patiently on the carpet for his dinner and treats.  Java also knows that he is to be invited out of his kennel, he is not allowed to 'bolt' out.  He also understands the word 'kennel'.  He knows this means he is to go into his kennel.

Java loves to play, play, play.  His all time favorite thing to do is play tug-o-war and show you how strong he is.  Java loves playing tug-o-war with his foster's mom's 4 pound Yorkie and playing 'chase' when the foster mom's cat wants to play.

When Java is being disobedient, he understands 'Big Trouble Mister' !

Java has come a long way.  We can now touch his neck, chest, paws and he now loves being picked up and carried.  He takes treats very nicely and shares his dry food and toys with other dogs.  He still isn't to thrilled to be brushed, but with time and patience, he will get accustomed to it.  Java has turned into a love bug who happily gives kisses now.  He is fully house trained and will bark at the door to be let out.  Java LOVES going for car rides and will normally lay down and sleep most of the way.

Java's knee has healed quite nicely from his surgery and he is starting to use it more and more.  He should not be allowed to climb, jump or go down stairs for a while yet.  At least until he is fully using his leg.  Java goes crazy over the snow.  He loves the snow and goes bonkers over trying to bite the falling flakes.  He will need to be watched in the colder weather.  If his leg gets too cold, it hurts him.  Outside supervision is a must until he is fully healed and the fur has grown back.

Because of Java's sensitive stomach, he will need to eat a special diet of Medi-Cal Gastro dry and Medi-Cal Fibre Wet from the Vet, likely for the rest of his life.  Java also loves Holistic dog cookies, but fruit and vegetables are his favorite.

The ground chicken with brown rice and steamed carrots and red peppers helped a lot too.  Needless to say, dinner time is a big deal in the foster home.

Java is highly food motivated and will do anything for slices of apple, red peppers and baby carrots.  Papaya and banana slices are his absolute favorite.

This little guy is going to make some very lucky family a great little pet.  Due to Java's small size and nature, it would be best if he went to a home with kids older than 12 yrs.  Java would benefit greatly having another small dog or dog friendly cat to play with.  Java is good with other dogs, although he is a bit verbal around dogs he doesn't know.  He has been fostered with 4 other small dogs and 2 cats, whom he's made friends with..

Please read our Adoption info. before applying. If you have questions or wish to apply for Java, please Email .

JinJin

Big eyed little JinJin was found as a small puppy with a rubberband deeply embedded in her neck,  badly damaging her ear. “How might this have happened?!” you are probably thinking. This is a common form of abuse in Taiwan and can also happen accidentally when banded lunch boxes are tossed out and hungry dogs go foraging for food getting the rubberband stuck around their necks. JinJin had to have surgery to remove the band and required ongoing treatment and second surgery here for infection and to repair her damaged ear. Her ear will require regular cleaning to avoid future ear infections, but no more than a breed like a Spaniel requires. Her scars are healing and are becoming less noticeable and the one lop ear just adds to her charm!
JinJin is quite popular wherever she goes. She is great with dogs, cats and kids. Foster update: " I forgot to mention that her house training progressed leaps and bounds too after the infection was dealt with and now she even asks to go outside :) She is also learning some commands and cute tricks (she does a great 'sit pretty'). Anyone who comes to meet her will absolutely fall in love with her! "
She’s had a rough year first 8 months... lets give her a wonderful future!
JinJin is spayed, microchipped and immunized, she is just 9 months old and 22lbs She has had a clear bill of health from the vet and is ready to find a new home for the holidays!! Oh and her breed??? well she is a  Taiwanese Formosan crossed with... who the heck knows :) Contact Island Dogz Rescue

Nova

Nova is a wonderful family dog that is the victim of a family split-up. He is all round well behaved nice lovable mutt (RottieXChow and a few others  mixed in there :) He likes everyone, young and old, is gentle and respectful. Loves to play and sleep and walk and go for car rides. He's great at the dog park we visited. He knows basic commands, but does pull some on the leash (a little work on that and he'll be great) I gave him a bone, and was able to easily take it from his mouth and he waited for permission to take it again. Super nice happy-go-lucky guy.

Nova is 4-5 years old, in good health and ready to fit easily into most homes situations

Emma

Emma is a 1 year old female, 5 lbs, spayed, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.

Her foster mom says she is very loving and gives lots of kisses. She is extremely submissive and will need help to overcome this.

She is good with other dogs, she has been introduced to cats, and is still working on understanding what they are. She’s attending doggy daycare and is doing great, building her confidence with other dogs.

She will need lots of one on one interaction and training.

If you would like more information about Emma, please contact her foster at shellthompson@shaw.ca

Amber

AMBER:  is a chi X,  tall (15" at shoulder), 22 lbs....these are Amber's foster's comments:

Amber is a very sweet and affectionate girl and will make someone a great pet.  She catches onto the routine fairly quickly and makes herself at home. She is tall, so make sure that things you do not want her to reach are well out of her reach.

She is not a snappy dog and you can easily remove things that she has without having to worry about your fingers.  She does not appear to be food aggressive with other dogs or toy aggressive either, but will steal from another dog given the chance.

She is still has a lot of puppy in her and will play with you and does like to jump up on you, so if that is something a person does not like she will need to be trained to cease that action. Email contact below.

River

"River is an American pit bull, who is dearly loved by all the staff at our shelter. We have worked hard to make sure that he is socialized with other dogs and people. He is intensely loyal, as the breed tends to be. He is friendly with most dogs, however he is still un-friendly around intact males. Pit bulls are often mistakenly perceived as aggressive. This is a misconception, in actuality, pit bulls are people loving and intelligent. It is only through mistreatment that they become hostile. The pit bull breed is very human oriented and loves to socialize. We are looking for a special owner for River, someone who can act as a strong pack leader to set boundaries and give him consistency. He is an amazing dog with a natural desire to please his owner."

From personal experience with River I can tell you that not only do I agree with that description, I would speak even more highly of River.  While we say that he is un-friendly with intact males, I would say he is no more un-friendly than the other dogs at the shelter.  River is not a dog that provokes fights. We have made a point of socializing him with many dogs, inside and outside the shelter and generally, when introduced in the right manner, he gets along with most other dogs.  I adopted an abandoned puppy that came to the shelter and even with how annoying puppies can be (jumping up in the faces of other dogs), she and River have become great friends and River has never shown any aggressiveness to her.

River is extremely smart and obedient.  He will sit, shake a paw, stay, walks great on and off leash and will come to his name.

When feeding him we have worked on making him sit and stay until the food is on the ground.  When giving him treats we use the command "gentle" and we often will take his treat or bone away from him then give it back.

He is not good with cats.  That's about the worst I can say of him!  He also is quite a slobbery dog so any new owner should be aware of that.

Overall in the 4 months that I have known River I have never felt threatened by him despite his breed and his enormous sized head!  In fact he has won me over.  I would say the thing he likes doing most would be backing right up onto you and sitting in your lap (when you are on the floor) ready for a cuddle and a hug and to give you some extremely wet kisses.

He has now been at our shelter for over 9 months and I'm worried we have run out of resources in our small town.  He is also not meant to be a northern dog.  Now that the temperature has dropped to between -20 and -40 River stays mostly inside.  He doesn't even enjoy going for a walk in this weather.  I think he would be much more suited to a warmer climate.

Our board of directors is also very fond of River and is intent on finding him a good home which is why they are willing to fly him wherever that may be.

Keely

Meet Keely: A 35lb bundle of silly happy puppy energy :) Keely is a actually a Formosan mixed breed that was a stray on the street, but looks like an overgrown Jack Russell and has the same energy level. She is approx 11months old and full of fun and love as you can see from this video taken during play time at the shelter Kelly video . She is a very good natured dog with all people but needs to learn some boundaries when it comes to interacting with dogs that aren't so fond of her overly enthusiastic playfulness. With easy going dogs, she is great and LOVES to play!!. As house life is completely new to her, Keely is still somewhat jumpy and barking at strange sites and sounds...but daily she is settling into this new life in Canada. She is great with any and all handling, in fact the more she can get the better ;). Keely will need an active family as she is still very puppyish and needs a couple good walk/runs to use up all that energy in a positive way. She is very food motivated and eager to please so is learning how to behave nicely and will be an easily trained girl as long as you have patience for her. She is up-to-date on shots, micro-chipped and spayed. Contact: Island Dogz Rescue

Jonah

Jonah has had a tough year! On Jan 3, 2011 he was found by Terrace RCMP after being hit by a train! . Jonah was rushed by the officer to the local vet clinic in order to undergo immediate surgery. He had one eye that had popped out of its socket, one leg that was terribly damaged, a smashed mouth and a mangled tail. Jonah had his eye reinserted in the socket, had his upper front teeth removed and had a plate installed in order to hold his shattered femur together. Three days later he was good enough to go into foster care. Unfortunately that same day he slipped on the ice and it quickly became apparent that he had done some damage so it was back to the vet. Jonah had a larger plate set in place with longer screws to hold it secure; he had completely snapped one of the screws so it is stuck in his bone forever. He recovered quickly and returned to foster.......After some time it was clear that nothing slowed Jonah down and he was moved into a quieter foster home. After a few months Jonah returned to the vet again and had his plate removed and was sent home to yet again recover. Fast forward through months of recovery which the biggest challenge was keeping this guy quiet when he wanted to play! Now Jonah is none the worse for wear and is an energetic, happy dog. He does need some training to walk nicely on leash. As typical with huskies, Jonah also needs an escape proof yard as he likes to go exploring...he will dig his way out looking for fun if left alone in the yard (Which we don't recommend with any of our huskies..they want to be with their people and will get destructive or go searching for fun and company if left out alone) He has been fostered with toddlers and dog-savy cats and is good with other dogs. He is neutered and uptodate with shots. Contact: Island Dogz Rescue

Lola has an adoption pending

Miss Lola is a sweeter than a candy factory, and we are in love with her. Lola was sadly returned to the shelter just 12 days after being adopted. When we first met Lola at her kennel, she quietly sat there and was patient when we opened the kennel door. She allowed us to walk right in and put a leash on her without any problem. She walks excellent on the leash, and did not bark or seem bothered by the other dogs in the kennels we walked by. She also showed no interest in the cats we walked past. Lola knows how to sit for praise and affection, and will be easy to train for more obedience. She also has excellent manners and does not jump, bark or act unladylike. Lola weighs around 50 lbs., and at just 11 months old she is a class act with a very calm and loving demeanor. We did offer Lola treats, which she gently took from our hands, but she enjoyed being petted and receiving tummy rubs more. Lola is a social butterfly and loves to be around people, and sadly her prior family told the shelter that she was kept outdoors for 24 hours a day. The family also said that she was calm, playful, affectionate, and loved to go on car rides. Lola is a very socially motivated girl and would do well in a home where she could be one of the family.

Notes from previous Adopter:
Lola is really good at sitting and really good on leash and doesn't pull. She was good with kids, fine with a 2-year-old child. Didn't jump up and didn't lick. She was quiet and calm and playful when you wanted to play. She was an outside only dog, so they don't know if she is housebroken

Why Lola got returned: The adopters had another female puppy that was 4-5 months old. The first week went fine, the second week the puppy was acting protective of food and initiated a fight (NOT LOLA),... After that there was tension/fighting between the two. The puppy's neck was injured by Lola in a fight. The puppy is fine now, has a few staples from injury.

From Sacramento County Shelter:
On Tuesday Lola was down to her last day without a commitment. Respect-A-Bull Rescue on Vancouver Island, B.C. stepped up and said they would take her. With Rhonda's coordinating and a lot of lady luck on our side, transport was quickly and successfully arranged for that same day!
Looks like our newly-Canadian little rescue girl has already been on two visits to retirement homes made by the founders of the rescue group. Miss Lola certainly appears to be a natural at this noble work!

Lola is house trained, likes other dogs,Likes kids. Contact: Respect-A-Bull Dog Rescue

Buffy

This is an update on Buffy who is coming along swimmingly, lol. She is now
going to K9Fit For Fun twice a week for her hydro-therapy to strengthen her back leg muscles. Her therapist Vanessa, is just delighted with her progress and her intense determination to please. Buffy knows when we're going to the pool and bounces up and down on her front legs as she can't wait to get to the car where she just curls up on the seat and snoozes. Her therapy at home consists of manipulating/stretching her back legs and she get's so
comfortable on my lap that sometimes she just fallls asleep, she loves the one on one attention and there is a lot of hand licking and deep sighing going on. What a love bug!!!  After all this time she is finally "rembering" how to stand on all four's and walk again but it's going to take a while
yet.

Buffy gets along well with my other 4 dog's and wears a diaper in the house. We are now working on potty training and we're off to a good start as she's making an effort to let me know when something's about to happen so I
can whip off the diaper and get her outside. She has learned to use the dog door so I have to get that diaper off fast, lol !!

Buffy loves to fetch and it's pretty funny watching her competing with everyone else. Sometimes getting traction is a problem for her as the floors are all laminate. She is now crate trained and has her food in there as well, as she was really defensive when she first arrived but is making good progress in that area now. She never snaps at a person if you try to take anything away from her but let's the other dog's know what's hers is hers, a work in progress.

Buffy has quite a personalilty and when she's fully recovered, she's going to make a wonderful addition to her forever home. For more info go to B.C. Poodle Rescue

Speedy

Breed: pb greyhound
Sex: neutered male
Age: 5 years old

Speedy is a purebred greyhound, He is 5 years old. has been neutered, had his shots, and his teeth have been cleaned. He needs a quiet home as he is still somewhat fearful of people, particularly if they stand over him. His response is to go into another room, he does not bite, he just avoids. He is good with big dogs and would happily share a house with one, though does play rough, but is not considered safe with cats or small dogs at this point. He also would not be good around young children as their boisterousness would upset him. He would love to have a person of his own, who understand that he is still unsure and who will provide a safe, loving home for him. He will return that love. He loves to be petted and comes for attention when people are sitting down. We know Speedy's perfect home is out there somewhere. More info and application forms at www.ncgl.ca

Filomina

Filomina
Spayed female
3 years old
40 pounds
Mexican Mix

Fabulous Filomina is a sweet and loving dog.  She lived the first two years of her life in a shelter where she was cared for and socialized by volunteers and staff and received basic obedience training.  Finally, a great foster home was found for her, where she continued with her obedience training.  Filomina gets along with other dogs (albeit a bit shy at first), is not dominant, loves attention but is also fine being left alone.  We have found that she is a bit 'barky' in new situations and just needs correction and reassurance until she feels comfortable with her surroundings. Filomina is housebroken. Arriving in Victoria on Dec. 3. For information and application go to www.mex-can.org.

Roxi

Roxy is a two year old spayed female American Bulldog.

Roxi is a funny happy girl that loves her people, she would do best with a submissive male dog. She is use to being the boss and getting her own way from her boy friends. Roxi walks great on leash and loves the water. Roxi is not the first time bully owner dog,she does not like every dog she meets. But she will listen to "leave it" and walk by,but you need to be a Pack leader with her. She is a very cuddly happy girl that would love to hang out and watch T.V. with you. She does know basic obedience but could use more training, this also would be a great way to bond with her and show her you are a Pack Leader!
Roxi is a Respect-A-Bull Dog Rescue

dog.
