Johnny

This is Johnny,  a 2 year old, 60lb Malamute/Collie. He is from the same hoarder situation in Saskatchewan as Chevy (newly adopted) and Luke (available). These dogs were kept isolated and outside with very little interaction and next to no positive attention. The last picture is of Johnny there ...They were extremely fearful of people and the world in general, matted, dirty and had never seen a vet. Despite all this, they are the sweetest souls you could imagine! Johnny is very cuddly and the most outgoing. He would be a pampered lap dog if you let him :). He is very gentle and tolerant, to the point of gently licking my hand as I worked out some very painful mats.

He will be looking for a home that will continue to show him love and patience, as well as continue to give him steady exposure to the world. His confidence will be boosted greatly with obedience classes and regular socialization. Johnny is still too nervous of kids to be placed with younger or high energy children.

Johnny is an Island Dogz rescue. Please access their website for more info a/o application.

Bo

How cute is this lil man!! Bo is a 30lb mix...maybe Spitz Corgi ? He is 5, so beyond the crazy puppy stage, but still playful and chipper! He is friendly and walks well on leash.  He loves to instigate play and has an adorable play-bow and come-wrestle dance. He also is a real snuggle boy.

Bo has spent years in a shelter, after being rescued from the street. He's more than ready for a final move to his furever home!

Bo is neutered, micro chipped, fully immunized. He is an Island Dogz rescue. Please access their website for more info a/o application.

Christi

Christi is doing amazing in foster care, and getting out for lots of new experiences! She is very playful and has a ball with her her foster pup family. She is very bright and easy to train.

This little girl is 19months and just 23lbs. Another perma-pup as we call them, she will keep her cute puppy-like size and appearance.  Christi and her brothers were dropped at the shelter as wee pups with mange. With the constant damp humidity, its very hard for these skin conditions to fully heal in Tiawan. The brothers, Hank and Shane, came to us several months ago and had very sparse hair. Now they are fluffy and looking great...something that never could occur in the shelter. Christi has a much milder skin issues, and we are confident that her coat will fill in here too. She is a happy girl and walks well on leash.

She is going to take some time to calm down and adjust to this new life. In foster care, she is getting comfy with her environment and asking for attention more and more. But she is still a tiny bucking bronco on leash and tense in new places. She barks at new people, but if they let her come to them in her own time, she settles.

Christi has only been out of the shelter a few days... in time her true personality is showing more and more and we see more of the friendly playful pup she was meant to be

Christi is spayed, immunized, and micro-chipped.
Christi is an Island Dogz rescue. Please access their website for more info a/o application.

Lucy

Lucy is another Taiwanese street dog that was hit by a car and left on the street. She had a back injury, but  has recovered with surgery to stabilize her spine. She must have had a angel watching as most dogs in her case wouldn't have been so lucky and would have ended up paralysed, but she was brought to the care of TUAPA shelter vets for lots of TLC.

She is fully recovered, but will do better with casual strolls and running in the park rather than being a mountain biker's companion :)This certainly doesn't slow her down, she is an active bubbly dog that runs for the sheer joy of running. Lucy is also very popular in her doggie daycare. She is alert and active... unless  it's cuddling time. When she slows down, her favorite place is on a lap getting rubbed :)

Lucy is spayed, micro-chipped and up to date on immunizations.

Lucy just turned 3 and is 24 lbs. She is a real snuggler and is good with everyone and every dog she has met. She LOVES running in the park and has those cute ears that keep flapping after the rest of her has stopped.

Lucy is an Island Dogz rescue. Please access their website for more info a/o application.

Luke

  • Meet Luke, a 2 year old, 55 lb Malamute/Collie cross. He is from the same hoarder situation in Saskatchewan as Chevy (adopted) and Johnny(available). These dogs were kept isolated and outside with very little interaction and next to no positive attention. They were extremely fearful of people and the world in general, matted, dirty and had never seen a vet. The third picture is Luke with his brother there...Despite all this, they are the sweetest  souls you could imagine!

Luke is very affectionate and learning not to be fearful of people approaching him. He is still backs off when we approach too quickly, but if we are quiet he happily comes to us. His craving to give and get love and affection is winning over his cautiousness more and more each day! How rewarding to see the steady progress!!!

Luke will be needing a home that will continue to show him love and patience, as well as continue to give him steady exposure to the world. His confidence will be boosted greatly with obedience classes and regular socialization. He is great with dogs and enjoys the dog park.

Luke is still too nervous of kids to be placed with younger or high energy children.

Luke is an Island Dogz rescue. Please access their website for more info a/o application.

Simon

As you can see below, Simon had a very rough start in life. He was found on the street, suffering with severe mange, a shattered leg and malnutrition.

Now, at approx 20 months old and a pint sized 30lbs, he is healthy and happy and ready to start the second phase of his life! This little guy is active and friendly. This little guy is active and friendly. Simon is very slightly dog reactive in new situations, but is quickly getting over that and plays wonderfully with his foster brothers and sisters as well as doggie daycare friends! You can see in another how he likes to snuggle with his JRT "sister"

Simon is an Island Dogz rescue. Please access their website for more info a/o application.

Sadie

"My name is Sadie and I was born about one year ago.  I lived in a very remote community that has too many dogs and no Doctor to care for us so Big Heart Rescue said I could come and live with a loving foster family who are located on Vancouver Island until my own forever family found me.

As you can see, I am BEAUTIFUL and a little on the thin side but because I am eating so well now I should gain a little bit of weight soon and weigh about 100 pounds when I am at my right weight.

The Doctor spayed me, vaccinated me, tattooed me, de-wormed me, de-flead me, checked me, microchipped me .. whoosh that was a lot of stuff to be done to me but I know its important.

I live with other dogs, cats and kids in my foster home and am an ENERGIZER Bunny!  If you love to hike, jog, camp, and play on the beach then I am your girl.

By the way, I also like to run, play, sing and dance every day!

Are you home most of the time?  Do you wish for a big girl to play with?  Will you take me to training and help me to learn all that I can?  Do you have a secure fence and need a best friend in your life?

If you are looking for me to join your home please let Gail know and fill out the on-line adoption application so we can see if I might be your new family member.

Licks and wags,

Sadie

PS: You need to live within a two hour driving distance of Vancouver or the Gulf Islands."

Jax

Jax is 3 months old, weighs about 8lb. Our vet thought Jax might be a Sheltie/Dacshund mix, and probably will not be more than 20lb full grown. He's a really sweet, playful little guy. Loves to play with other dogs, really friendly with people. He seems to be on the submissive side, but not shy. Just a really sweet little fellow! Jax is really smart and responsive to people. He's doing well with housetraining - he knows what that grass is all about, but because he's still so young he needs to be taken out frequently.

Jax is a B.C. Poodle Rescue dog. Please access their website for contact info and application.

Winston

Winston is a 1 yr old bichon, he's a wonderful young guy. He loves to cuddle and get attention. Gets along and plays well with other dogs. He loves to chase the ball. He is responding well to commands and seems eager to learn. Winston will bark when meeting people for a second then when he realizes that they want to pet him he just melts. So with  more introductions I think he will overcome that, because he loves people once he gets to know them. Winston does have slight separation anxiety, when you leave the house he cries for few minute but once he knows your gone he settles down. Each day he gets better being left alone. Winston is such a sweet soul and just needs time to adjust and someone to love him lots, something that he has lacked for awhile. Once he feels secure and loved he will pay it back in spades!!

Winston is a B.C. Poodle Rescue dog. Please access their website for contact info and application.

Mimi

Mimi is a tiny Chihuahua, she's about 2 years old. She is the sweetest little thing! She is really friendly with people and other dogs, but is a bit nervous of new things. She absolutely loves to cuddle though and loves to spend time in the pouch, being carried around. She likes going along on errand trips around town and will sit contentedly and quietly in the pouch. She also likes going on walks and is really good on a leash.

Mimi is a B.C. Poodle Rescue dog. Please access their website for contact info and application.

Pixie (the white one) is 6 month old Chi mix and weighs about 7lb. The photos don't do her justice, she's a gorgeous little dog - kind of looks like an arctic fox. She is really friendly and playful. She is good with other dogs, but seems to be more interested in people. Pixie is very cuddly, sweet and gentle.

Pixie is a B.C. Poodle Rescue dog. Please access their website for contact info and application.

Sunny has an adoption pending

Breed: Wheaton terrier/poodle mix
Sex: female spayed before adoption
Age: approx. 2 years old

Sunny was found abandoned on the streets in a small town in southern California.

Asessment done by animal behaviourist Steve Huxter of Transform Animal Behaviour Solutions.

"Sunny is a delightful, small Wheaton Terrier/Poodle X and she is about 2 years old.

Sunny’s disposition certainly matches her name. She is an absolutely adorable dog who relishes affection. Virtually nothing is known about her previous life but my assessment of her leads me to believe that she was in a home situation where she didn’t get much attention or walks. It is also uncertain whether there were children in the home.

Sunny is very much enjoying the attention she is now getting and her foster caregivers find her easy to care for although she shadows them as they move about their home. Now that Sunny is getting the attention and affection she deserves, she wants to make certain that it’s always available to her.

Sunny displays a bit of anxiety when left alone but she has only been in a loving foster care home for a short time. As she comes to realize that attention and affection is a consistent, daily part of her new life, her anxiety at being left alone will dissipate. Her caregivers find that Sunny loves her walks and going for a jog. It will be very important that she continues to enjoy daily walks when she finds her permanent home.

The one issue of small concern is that Sunny has not had the opportunity to socialize with other dogs and sometimes will display concern when some dogs come close to her.

Fortunately, her caregivers have been working with Sunny and she has gone jogging with another dog along and did very well. Her walks at Elk Lake where there is no small amount of dogs, are improving each time and she has passed by many other dogs without incident. It is just a matter of time until she has acquired well balanced social skills with other dogs. When Sunny goes to her new home, it will be important that I meet with her new owners, at no charge, to ensure that there is consistency in her progress. I am very confident that it won’t be long before Sunny is looking forward to meeting other dogs." ~ Steven Huxter

Lexie

Breed: Spaniel/Beagle? mix
Sex: Spayed female
Age: 4 years
Weight: 16 lbs

Lexy was rescued from a high kill pound in Arkansas. When assessed at
the shelter Lexy was one who played with other dogs always with one
eye on the human and ready to run at full speed when called. She's
definitely a people dog and is very loving and affectionate once she
gets to know you. At first meeting she can be a bit timid especially
with men but gets over that pretty quickly.

Lexy has gotten along well with the other dogs and cats in her foster
home though she does make sure that the cats don't get the place of
honour close to her foster mom. She also makes sure that no harm
comes to the four month old grandchild in the home and is very gentle
with him. This playful happy girl loves to cuddle and sleep under the
covers though she's comfortable in her crate as well. She'll be a
wonderful loyal companion and family member.

Lexy is a Mosaic Rescue dog.  More information about her, Mosaic

Guinness

Breed:  Mini Dachshund
Sex: Neutered Male
Age: 4 - 5 years
Weight: 10 lbs

This little tyke was rescued from a high kill pound in
Arkansas.  Guinness, like many dachshunds is quite a character and
very much a big dog in a little dog's body.   He's feisty and
energetic (his nickname is Super G since he can leap onto couches in
a single bound) yet he's also a complete cuddle bug lap dog during
quiet times.  Guinness has been fostered in homes with other dogs and
cats and gotten along well with all of them. But most of all Guinness
loves people and would be happiest in a home where he could hang out
with humans most of the time.

Guinness is a Mosaic Rescue dog.  For more information about him,

Dexter

Breed: Shepherd mix
Age: 2.5 years
Sex: neutered male

Dexter is a friendly dog looking for a human(s) to call his own.

Here's what animal behaviourist Steve Huxter of Transform says about him:

"You can’t help but open your heart to Dexter even as he is approaching you for the first time. You can tell in his greeting that he has every intention of giving his heart to you.

He is a 2 ½ years old Shepherd/Husky X and on the lower end of medium size. Dexter could stand to lose a few pounds but his current caregiver is taking him on long hikes and watching his food intake. I’m sure it won’t be long before he is back in shape.

Dexter’s former owners are sincerely heartbroken to send him to a new home but a change in circumstance has forced them into the decision.

You can tell that he has come from a loving home. Dexter has a nicely balanced greeting; calm yet eager, tail wagging and displaying a slightly submissive nature. He calmly accepted various parts of his body being handled and manipulated by me within moments of our being introduced. Dexter is shy of the vacuum and brooms.

He gets along very well with other dogs and recognizes and accepts his place in the pack hierarchy.

Dexter’s former owner described him as; “A great dog and a loving friend.”

I couldn’t agree more." ~Steve Huxter.

Cleo

Cleo is an eight-year-old Beagle who weighs 30-35 lbs. She is healthy, lean and muscular and she has the most beautiful, glossy coat.  Unfortunately, through no fault of her own, she has been shuffled through several different homes over the years and she is now looking for a special family that will be committed to her and will love her forever. She is a sweet girl who gets along famously with the other dogs and cats in her foster home and she is finally learning to play! She has lots of energy and she loves her walks - she currently enjoys two 45 minute walks/day in her foster home.  As with most beagles, it's best to have a yard with a secure fence if you want to let her spend time off-leash outdoors. She has a very keen sense of smell and she loves to follow her nose! Cleo is housetrained and she is generally calm and quiet in the house. She is looking for a family with someone who is home most of the time, or someone who is willing to take her to doggy daycare, as she has a tendency to become anxious when left alone. She is a very social girl and she is happier when she has a doggy companion to keep her company.

Cleo is spayed, tattooed, microchipped, updated on her vaccinations and her teeth have recently been buffed and polished.  If you would like to request an adoption application form, please e-mail fureverafter@hotmail.com

Johnny has an adoption pending

Dogs: YES
Cats: UNKNOWN
Kids: Older 12 +
Energy: Low/Medium

(seen here with foster "siblings" Marley and Jenny, Johnny is the boy on the right smiling for the camera)

Johnny will be 2 years old in October. He's a very big boy, and equally as big a baby ~ he's like a puppy in big dog's clothing. He's so big, we believe him to be a Great Dane mix!  He is house trained, crate trained, and knows his basics: 'sit' (and will immediately try to shake a paw as soon as his bum hits the floor), 'down', and he's doing very well with learning 'stay' and 'come'.

His foster mom says he is a perpetual people pleaser, that has great eye contact, and is always looking to make his humans happy with what they ask of him. He is clearly unaware of his large size, being a little-less-than-graceful when he barrels over the other dogs as they play, and even 'bonking' into walls as he trots around corners in the house. While he still has some 'puppyish' manners to hone up on, over all he's a wonderful, sensitive boy.  He's dog social and loves to play, and is currently being fostered in a home with 3 other dogs.

He's such a sweet love bug and is equally happy zipping around the yard, going for walks, or just having a lazy day lounging on the couch with his humans. While Johnny is great around people, no small children please, as his large size would easily knock over a little one with his puppy-like mannerisms.

Johnny is a Respect-A-Bull Dog Rescue dog. Please click on website for contact info and application.

Peach

Peach is a one year old spayed Chi mix.  She weighs about 5 lbs.  Peach is a fabulous feisty girl, who loves to play with her toys and other dogs no matter the size. Peach is also very loving and likes to cuddle and give kisses. Great at meeting new people, very friendly, you can take her anywhere and she will be very well behaved. Peach loves to run around in the back yard and is also good on walks - just stays right beside me. This little girl has lots of personality from doing a happy dance when she knows she is going to get her dinner or chasing her tail. She listens well to commands and is learning everyday. Peach will be great in a home with another dog as she loves to play, but she will be the dominant one. She could also be ok as the only dog as long as you are willing to play with her a lot. Peach is also fine with cats. This sweetheart is looking for her forever home where she will be loved.

Peach is a B.C. Poodle Rescue dog. Please go to their website for contact info and application.

Pepsi

This is Pepsi, he was surrendered to rescue with Truffles because his owner passed away.  Pepsi was born Jan/2000;   He develops skin irritation when fed food containing chicken or corn.  He is very tolerant of small kids and simply moves away if crowded.  Pepsi doesn't care much about toys and prefers to just lie around and watch.  He is extremely easy going.  He is neutered and up to date on shots.  Pepsi should go to a cat free home.  Pepsi's adoption fee is $200.

Inoke

Inoke is a 18 month, male Siberian Husky cross. He looks mostly Husky but is slighter, has longer legs and pointier muzzle. He weighs just 40lbs , but is underweight. He is good with dogs, although plays too rough for some.Cats and small animals are unknown at this point. He is good with the children he has met so far, but will not be placed with young ones as he is a big goofy rough housing pup.

Inoke landed himself in a crowded pound in Taiwan, and after 4 months he was brought to the attention of TUAPA shelter, who then took him in and got him ready for his new life as a Canuck! Now he is learning all that this new life has to offer...and LIFE IS GOOD!

Inoke has very intelligent big brown eyes that don't miss a thing and the usual husky vocals. He is cuddly, very playful and full of beans. Best fun ever is tossing stuffies wildly around the house!  He would make a great running companion, as he will definitely need lots of energy and stimulation to keep him out a trouble. He has discovered swimming, but would rather splash on the shore.

Could you give Inoke a life that is even better... a life that includes a home to call his own???

Swift

Swift is a 9 month old, 22 lb little gal that resembles a lab whippet cross. She is a little underweight and has a bit of growing to do, but will not likely pass 30lbs. These dogs retain the "perma-pup" look and keep their cute, inquisitive ways.

Swift, true to her name, loves to run and chase at the park and is FAST. She also likes good natured wrastling with dogs and people, and is learning how much fun toys are (They didn't exist in her previous life in a Taiwan Shelter). This pup is fun and affectionate. She walks well on leash, although is nervous in crowds. She is also a tad nervous of big dogs on first meeting, but quickly relaxes and is back to her playful self. She is alert and bright, will bark at strangers in the yard, but is easily redirectable.

Swift is microchipped, spayed and up to date on shots. For more info, contact Gem at Island Dogz

Tawny

Tawny is a terrier type dog from Taiwan that I like to call a a Taiwan "perma-pup" :). She is 28lbs and 3 years old, but looks like a shep cross puppy . She is a sweet girl that was street dog for the first year or so of her life, then got lucky enough to be brought to the shelter. Her life is now taking another step in the right direction as she starts a life in BC. It's all up from here as I know she will be offered a great home that will give her all the love and security and belonging that she's she's never known!

Tawny is doing great in her foster home, and is living happily with another dog, a cat and 2 scary chickens :). She is still nervous out in the new world she's found herself, but with continued socializing and regular outings, Tawny will be just as happy in other situations as well. She will do best in a quiet household, and perhaps with a confident mellow dog to keep her company and be a calm influence on her.

Tawny is spayed, immunized & microchipped . For more info, contact Gem at Island Dogz

Whimsy

Whimsy is a cuddly 15lb, 2 1/2 year old little gal with the sweetest face and whispy ears. She is a Taiwanese Formosan mixed with a fluffy dog of some sort  (My expert opinion ;). Most of these former street dogs are a breed mix mystery.

She has been in a shelter since a wee pup and 2 years is more than enough! Whimsy is happy, and friendly with calm dogs and people  (cats unknown at this point)  She is up-to-date on shots, spayed and micro-chipped.

Foster update : She is more a people-dog than a dog-dog. She bonded immediately with her foster mom and would be attached if possible, even wanting to sleep under the covers :)

Whimsy is interested in cats, but not aggressive. She is nervous around big dogs  and can be possessive of her foster mom, but with regular positive experiences with new dog friends at the park, this is getting much better. She is a natural for agility - both for bonding, confidence and physical challenge -not to mention fun! This wee girl can sail over a  baby gate and walks the back of the couch like a tightrope.

Could you return her love and offer a place to call home for the first time ever?? For more info, contact Gem at Island Dogz

Casha

Dogs- tolerant/leashed with proper introduction
Cats- No
KIDS- Yes
Energy - Medium/low

Casha is the best of the best.  She's wowed everyone who has met her, from her start at the Victoria SPCA and now in our program.  Casha lost her leg due to an old injury that was left untreated, by the time she was surrendered it was too late to save it.  The wonderful people at the Victoria SPCA saw something special in this girl, and they worked to rehab Casha.  She's adapted well to life with 3 legs, getting around like she has 4.
Casha is a wonder dog in the house.  Well mannered and calm, she listens like a dream and shows how well she knows her basics.  She is easy to train and very food motivated.  Casha is wonderfully crate trained, putting herself to bed in it despite being allowed to sleep on her foster parent's bed!  She is also very well behaved and non-destructive when left out alone in the house.
Casha walks well on leash.  She can pull but will listen if you tell her to heel.  Despite hopping along on 3 legs, walk time is one of Cahsa's favorite things.
Casha is gentle with children, currently fostered with a 6 year old boy.  HOWEVER, her adoptive home should be that with older or dog savvy children, as she isn't stable on her 3 legs to have kids hanging on her and will need to have her space respected as she does for kids.
Casha is 5 and a 1/2 and is spayed.  She's been made to have puppies in her past life and is looking forward to life as just a family pet.
Casha is unknown with cats so will be adopted to a home without them.  Casha is selective about the dogs she meets and will need proper intros to feel comfortable. She is not the kind of girl who will go to the dog park, she'd rather be out and about with her humans.  She is currently fostered with 3 other dogs and has been wonderful with them, as long as she is supervised as she tends to get too excited during play.  She's been snarked at by both a grumpy Boston Terrier and a Weiner dog, and she ignored both.  She's also meeting her foster sisters with licks and tail wags through the baby gate.  Casha needs her handler to be confident and to tell her what to do as she will listen if she is given proper guidance.
Casha is such a sweet, loving, VERY smart dog who has touched the hearts of hundreds.  She is a great breed ambassador and her mission in life could very well be to break down the sterotypes of what big, black pit bulls with cropped ears should be, as she is NOT a scary dog, but just a girl with a big head and an even bigger heart!
Her foster home claims that Casha is the easiest foster they have ever had in their house, and say that her adopter is going to be a VERY lucky person.

Smartie

Dogs- Yes
Cats- Yes
Kids- 8+ OK
Energy- Medium/low

Small and cute, Smartie is a great dog for a first time pit bull owner or someone just looking for a well behaved, easy dog.  She knows sit, down, shake a paw, stay...and she listens very well!  At 1 year, Smartie is a young dog but has outgrown her puppy craziness!  She benifits from proper introductions with other dogs but would be fine in a house where she is not the only dog. Smartie is also wonderful with cats and would be fine living with a feline companion or 2!  Smartie would do well in a home with older kids.

Evette
8 years old and quite the catch!  Evette spent her first 8 years breeding pups, now she's spayed and looking for her own home.  Evette is good with other dogs and all people including kids.  She's smart, funny and very vocal, greeting you in the morning with a lovely "Whooo whoooo"!
Evette needs someone special to give her a chance.  While black dogs are normally adopted last, look passed this and you'll be glad that you did.  Her body bears the marks of her past, with cropped ears some might think that she looks "scary", but Evette is a total softy and doesn't live up to her tough girl image.
Her foster home reports that she is a great cuddler, a joy to have around and easy to deal with.  Although pit bulls can live to 16 and beyond, due to Evette's age she'll be adopted with a reduced adoption fee of $150.  Click on Respect-A-Bull Dog Rescue website for contact info and application.

Jenny

Jenny is a large Rottweiler X approximately 3 years old, who was brought into the shelter with her puppies. She was very skinny and frightened. It didnt take Jenny very long to realize that she was always fed, had a soft warm bed, and cookies and walks were included. She loves people and gets along with other dogs. Jenny walks well on a halti, and sometimes a no pull harness. Jenny needs a dog savvy home where someone can teach her the ropes.

Marcus

Marcus came into the shelter wearing a thick chain that he had worn for a long time. He can be slow to trust new people, and will bark at them, and prefers female dogs over males. He is ready to start a new life with a owner who will appreciate and love him, and teach him what living in the house is all about. Although Marcus has some basic obedience, he would be best suited to a family without children who is interested in furthering his education. duncanspca@shaw.caE

When I go for walks wearing my harness I'm well-behaved... I love learning! My foster mom will happily tell you (or we can both show you) what I already knew plus what I've learned I have a great memory. And d'you know what I think I'd really like to learn? Agility! Please come down to the shelter and take me for a walk and you will want to take me home with you. PhoEEmail: duncanspca@shaw.caEmmail ne (250) 746-4646 Email:

Scarlett

Sweet Scarlet is a gentle and loving dog that will win your heart if you take the time to earn hers. Unlike the famed ‘Gone With the Wind’ Scarlet, this 1-2 year old red beauty is no drama queen, shunning the spotlight to instead get to know you slowly and quietly. Anyone who takes the time to get to know this little stunner will be rewarded with her sweet, undivided attention.

Scarlet is a trooper, learning to manoeuvre on just three legs having after having her front left leg amputated due to an infection that went untreated.  Every day she is improving, learning to walk and balance on three legs. She loves to walk but not too far while she’s getting used to her new way of being. But when she is around her doggie friends at her foster mom’s doggie daycare, she does her best to romp and play like she’s got all four legs! She is super dog social and has no trouble meeting new dogs, greeting them with a lopsided wiggle-bum. Click on Hug a Bull Rescue for contact and application form.

An owner who recognizes and appreciates Scarlet’s gentle, sensitive nature will reap the rewards that this dog can give in her loyalty and affection. Scarlet would do well in a house or a condo in a quieter area with an owner who provided her with the love she deserves.  A busy urban environment might be too overwhelming for Scarlet. She would do well with older children and could learn to live with younger ones, but younger children would need to learn how to treat this sensitive soul gently as she isn’t your rough-and-tumble kind of dog. Other dogs would be fine – she loves her doggie friends! And for training, harsh correction won’t do – this girl responds beautifully to affection, treats and praise, praise, praise.

A gentle soul, Scarlet is a mellow girl indoors but very puppyish in her play and in the affection she gives her foster mom. She loves her toys but isn’t quite sure how to play with people yet. She takes a little while to warm up to people, particularly men, and needs someone to take an interest in her, pay attention to her and gain her trust. Once you give her a little time and love, Scarlet will reward you in spades by showing you what a loyal lovebug she can be.

Seal

Hi! I’m very very VERY pleased to meet you. I’m a sporty kinda guy, into wrestling, jogging, and just being outside and movin’ around. I love playing with my people and I have to admit, I can get pretty excited until someone reminds me to chill out. It helps if they have a biscuit in their hands—I love biscuits and will do close to anything for one! And chewies, and Snausages, and duck tenders, and jerky, and Tidbits, and Sitbits, and …where was I?…

Oh yeah, stuff I like to do. Okay, don’t say it too loud but I also love to cuddle. Sssshh! Don’t let the other guys hear you, I have a reputation to maintain! But yeah, one of my favorite things is to squeeze in between my foster mom and my doggie foster sister and have a good long snooze. I’d stay in bed all afternoon if they’d let me but someone always has to get up. That’s alright, though, cuz that just means we get to do my next favorite thing: play! WHEEEEEEE!

So I guess you can tell by now that I have sorta a lot of energy, huh? Haha, yeah I do! My foster mom calls me a big overgrown puppy but I’m pretty sure that’s an affectionate term ‘cuz she’s always smiling when she says it. I think I’m ready to grow up a little though, so I’m looking for a forever family who will show me how to behave in obedience class, how to interact with other dogs, and maybe eventually do some specialized things with me like Rally-O or agility so I can burn off some energy and learn stuff at the same time. I like it when I know my people are happy with me so taking classes would be a win-win situation: I’d get treats for doing cool things and then you can show off to your friends how smart I am! Score! But you will need to be patient, confident, and firm with me because I can be stubborn sometimes. My doggie foster sister calls me a “diva” because I like a lot of attention but then she’s always the one pushing me out of the way when it comes time for belly rubs so go figure. I just think I’m a “work in progress.” Hahaha! Hey, do I smell cookies?! Oops, gotta go!

Kyla

Kyla is a spayed young adult female shepherd-lab mix weighing about 40 lbs.  She is a B.C. sweetie, surrendered from a mainland family who was moving and didn't want to take her along...sad Kyla.  She knows to sit and shake a paw for a treat, but is new to leashed walks.  She loves playing with her toys in her fenced foster home backyard and hanging out while dad works on the gardens.  When it's time to go, Kyla is ready and loves running off-leash on the beach or in the woods following mountain bikes along trails.

Kyla knows her name and is a gentle girl and seems to reflect her surroundings: she can be very patient and relaxed in quiet, calm surroundings.  She gets pretty excited around small barky dogs, cats and chickens.  Kyla will do best in an adult-sized-persons-only household.  Basic training classes is mandatory for Kyla and her new family.

Bette Davis

Breed: siberian husky mix, brown and white with blue eyes, Gender: female,
Age: 2 years
Weight: 52 pounds

Bette is fostered in Victoria

Bette loves people - she enjoys greeting everyone. She is a striking girl with her clear blue eyes - a magnet for all people! She loves walks and adapts her gait to yours - she follows flawlessly on a run - her attention solely on running beside you. What an awesome running partner. Yet she walks slowly and at ease as well.

Bette is fully housebroken. She is very calm and quiet indoors. She will come up to you for pats but prefers to watch you. She is not an "in your face" kind of girl. She just want to be nearby.

Bette has some fears of larger dogs and needs to learn to ignore them again. She needs a firm but benevolent leader - she needs routine and boundaries. She is affectionate and playful. She needs a solid leader and an outlet for her Husky energy. A breed savvy home would be ideal for Bette.

Rufus

Rufus is a 2 year old neutered male Lab Border Collie X. Rufus is not a dog for the first time dog owner. He will be a great dog with the right type of leadership and training. Rufus requires a home where he will know who is the boss and get lots of exercise. He would make a great companion for a runner or someone who is into flyball or agility and can burn off his extra energy. As Rufus will be a more difficult dog to place due to his energy we are trying to place him into a foster home until a great home is found for him.

Rusty

Rusty has arrived! He will be undergoing surgery to fix his cherry eye (A common, easily fixed prolapsed gland) and will be neutered on May 10th. We are currently looking for sponsors for Rusty to help us with his surgery costs. He will be available for adoption once he has recovered, which usually takes about 2 weeks. He is a real sweetheart, super adorable and very gentle. He is shy when he first meets new people but warms up quickly once he gets to know you and then loves affection. He is good with other dogs and humans. We were told he has been around children and is great with them but we have yet to test him ourselves. He is approximately 2 years old, a gorgeous chocolate and white parti, on the smaller side. He loves to play ball. We will have more information about Rusty once we get to know him better. Taya

This 7 month old bundle of fun is a pure white Siberian Husky X Malamute. She is 52lbs now and definitely has some growing to do. Taya is high energy, happy go lucky and full of mischief. She was purchased by a young family that found themselves overwhelmed with family illness and an untrained big puppy. Unfortunately, this is the fate for many Northern breeds when new owners don't do the research into all that is involved with taking on a puppy that quickly evolves from a cute teddy bear looking baby to a big and boisterous puppy. With a breed savy owner, Taya will be a great dog! She is learning the basics of being a good house dog quickly and is definitely fun to have around! Taya is up to date on shots and will be spayed shortly. Ginger

Up until recently, Ginger lived her whole life outside in a dog run.  She had very little shelter, no house training and she was bred for litters of pups.  Ginger was recently seized by the SPCA's cruelty investigations department because her owner failed to adequately provide for them.  Despite their less than ideal beginning, she loves to cuddle and spend time with her people.  Going for walks is new for her, but she is learning quickly.  Ginger needs an owner who will commit to her, someone who will continue to teach her what it means to be inside the home and to be a part of a family.  When Ginger was seized she was giving birth outside in the cold and rain.  Two puppies died.  The other 10 puppies are healthy and beginning to move into their own adoptive homes.  Ginger is the best mom we have had through our program!
Ginger is working on house training and obedience and is a fast learner.  Now that her pups are weaned and are being adopted, Ginger will have more time for herself so that her foster home can continue her rehabilitation.  She is living on a farm with kids, dogs, cats, horses, cows and chickens and is crate trained.
If you think that you'd like to allow Ginger a new beginning, please fill out an online adoption form!

Harley

Harley 24lbs 2 yrs old blk/tan male

UPDATE: Harley has had a rough start in his short little life. He didn't know how to trust people and who could blame him after the neglect he suffered. He has come along way since he first arrived and no longer "screams" when he first meets people. He LOVES chasing a ball, he gets along great with other dogs, is crate trained, rarely barks, jumps into my arms to cuddle and his little bum wags a mile a minute. He can still be a little nervous when first meeting people but quickly learns to trust (all you have to do is throw his ball and your his friend for life! lol!). He walks well on a leash, knows how to sit, lay down, look and we are working on his stay. He is one very special little doggie and definitely one of our favorites and deserves someone special of his own! If you are interested in adopting Harley please go to our website @ Angels Under Our Wings Cocker
Rescue
to complete our online adoption application

Meet Harley! Harley is Sebastion and Stella’s sibling. He is one of the 26 cockers that came from a hoarding situation and is currently underweight which is typical of dogs coming from this type of situation. Harley has had his cherry eyes fixed. He is a 2yr old black and tan cutie pie and we will have more information about him as we get to know him.

Sebastion

Sebastion 2 yr old Blk/Tan male 24lbs

Update: Since Sebastion arrived we have been working on his socialization as he was nervous around strangers. He has had a bit of a rough start to life and it is no wonder he didn't know how to trust people. When he was taken out of the hoarding situation he was dirty, terribly matted and malnorished. He has really come at of his shell and although he can still be a little nervous when first meeting new people he quickly learns to trust and then is very affectionate. He gets along great with other dogs and loves chasing a ball & playing with squeaky toys. He is a happy little guy and is really quiet. He is crate trained and walks well on a leash, he knows sit, down, look, come and we are working on his stay. He will need a home that will continue to draw him out of his shell even more and help build his confidence. Sebastion is Stella and Harley's sibling. He is also one of the 26 dogs from the hoarding situation.
