Thursday. Reunion of the chihuahuas in the works!
This just in from Royanne Powell of Woofles Barking Boutique. Royanne adopted Dizzy, one of the 43 chihuahuas.
"You probably heard about that amazing story of 43 Chihuahuas being turned into the SPCA for adoption. I'm trying to organize a reunion for this little herd of adorable dogs. We've started a Facebook Group called 43 Chi's and their new families in an attempt to get us all together. Woofles in Market Square adopted on of the 43 and named her Dizzy, she now works there with her Chihuahua Sister Simmah. I'd really like your help in getting the word out about the possibility of a reunion. Please get out my contact information of www.woofles.ca as well as our facebook group. These little guys were a family pack for a really long time, seeing one another again will be fantastic!"

Wednesday. Bobby has been found!

Bobby has been found safe and sound!
We got a tip from a caller that he was seen at Nelthorpe on Tuesday
night at 11pm, having been seen running down McKenzie on the median. He
was tracked into Swan Lake and was seen by his foster father going into
some thicket at around 5pm Wednesday. A young man named Matt later
called to advise that he was seen again back at Nelthorpe. Matt kept
visual contact with him and followed him to a place where Bobby hid,
until his foster family (the Hansons) could arrive on the scene. The
foster family dog, named Patch, was sent in first and Bobby came out to
see him. His foster mother, Elsie, was crouched down behind Patch and
Bobby then saw her and came to her.
Our family met them in a parking lot at Swan Lake. Bobby was dirty,
thirsty and very hungry, but seemed otherwise in relatively good shape.
He has gone to the familiar surroundings of the foster family home
tonight to recover.
We are all grateful for his safe return, for the help of the public, and
for your help.
THANK YOU!

Wednesday. Foster homes and fundraisers wanted.
Interested in fostering dogs or puppies? Commitment would be from 2 weeks to a month.
Or if fostering isn't for you....any imaginative fundraisers out there who could help Victoria Adoptables Dog Rescue continue rescuing dogs? Send me an Email
Tuesday. Check out our small animals page.

The small animal page is again up and running and worth checking out.
Friday August 6th. Bailey & the red Porsche.
We always like to receive updates on our adopted dogs and this one just came in from Bailey's family.
Now, Bailey has been a canine Dennis the Menace ever since he came into our care as a small pup. Luckily Bailey's family has great patience and a wonderful sense of humour to offset his goofball antics.
His latest "oops" involved being in hot pursuit of a rabbit and not noticing the open car door of a newly purchased parked Porsche. Bailey ran into the door at full tilt, dented the door, bent the hinge and twisted the door post so the door wouldn't close. Total damage: $1200.
And Bailey? A tad embarrassed but none the worse for wear.
After finding dog hair imbedded in the car door, ICBC were finally convinced Bailey The Goof had done the deed and they covered the repairs.
All of us at Victoria Adoptables Dog Rescue send our hugs to you Bailey...and suggest your humans buy you either a hard-hat or glasses.
Wed. July 28th. Remember Vinnie?

Vinnie aka Jazz now has 2 humans and a canine brother to complete his family. He hikes everyday and has filled out into a healthy, handsome 45lbs of muscle.
Jazz, we couldn't be happier for you!
Monday, July 26th. Tino, home at last.

Tino, the little rescue dog who was hit on Pat Bay Hwy., has recovered nicely and is in a new loving home.
"To all of you who sent donations and best wishes to this little dog, we cannot thank you enough. " Beverly Archer, Cats Cradle Animal Rescue
Wednesday July 21st. A step in the right direction re animal welfare in our city:
Kudos to Charlayne Thornton-Joe, Victoria City Mayor Fortin and Council for bringing forth these important animal welfare issues. Lets hope that all municipalities will jump onboard.

Victoria to rein in animal care with review of control bylaw

"Personally, I would like to see a complete ban on the sale of puppies, kittens and rabbits in pet stores. Barring that, a full disclosure of pet's origin, complete vet medical records and spay/neuter be mandatory practice in pet stores. Responsible breeders don't sell to pet stores and profit -making puppy mills shun the spotlight.
Pets are not products."

Tuesday July 13th. Gabby and her big blue bat.

Sometimes the best ideas don't turn out quite as expected. Gabby learned that ignoring the last few steps off the porch landed her with a fracture. The upside is she has a cool cast that draws lots of sympathy and loves.... and makes a great weapon for playtime.
Tuesday. The Beaver Lake Cannonball

Haley celebrates summer with an impressive cannonball into the lake.
Saturday.
Malcolm walks a mile in her shoes.

Today our boy Malcolm (aka Aqua Dog) attended the rally and fundraiser Walk A Mile In Her Shoes in Centennial Square.
What is Walk a Mile in Her Shoes?
Men literally walk one mile in women’s footwear to raise funds and awareness to help end sexualized violence. Each year, men, women, children, teens, and prominent members of our community walk in solidarity because, working together, we can prevent sexualized violence.
As he refused to wear heels, Malcolm wore frilly socks and painted his nails hot pink. Malc is here posing with Adam and Jeremy who raised pledges and completed the mile without twisting an ankle.
Thursday. An update on Boujie.

A year and a half ago, a young lab by the name of Boujie spent several months wandering the areas around Point No Point Resort in Sooke. She was extremely mistrustful of humans and evaded human contact. After exhaustive attempts to trap her, she was finally brought into safety just after Christmas of 2008....174 days after she went missing! We rejoiced that this timid little black lab finally had a home and the care she needed.
Today Boujie is happy, active and loves to play chase the ball. She enjoys walks with her humans but hates the rain (understandably, after living out for so long in our west coast winter).
Boujie's story is a testament of how lost animals can survive for long periods of time.
If you've lost your pet its important to report it, post posters with a picture and contact, and cover the area where the pet was last seen. And....don't give up!

Friday. So you want to adopt a pet.
On this website I've listed several dog and cat rescue organizations. Most of them will send you an application and want to know about you and why you wish to adopt a dog/cat.
Its also important that a prospective adopter ask questions of the rescue organization and their policies.
For example:
- Where did the animal come from? On the island, mainland or over the border?
- What is included in the adoption fee? (spay/neuter, vaccinations should always be included).
- What is the temperment of the animal? Is it fearful, housebroken, social with other dogs, cats, children etc. Spend time with the pet you're interested in. Don't rush your decision.
- If adopting an older dog or cat , find out if there has been dental or medical exam done recently. When and what was done?
- Is there a "foster to adopt" time frame? Will the rescue organization take the pet back if your life circumstances change?
- Remember, you're adopting a new family member...ask the questions.... we expect you to!
Oct. Jasper's Blog by a Dog
"Hi! I am a retriever/shepherd/chow mix who was born into an unhealthy and abusive environment. For eight months, fear was the only emotion I knew. Then one day I was miraculously rescued by the wonderful volunteers of Victoria Adoptables. For the first time in my life, I experienced a wonderful new environment that was stable and loving."
