Finding a home for Curly Shirley was a bit tricky. Carol Broad, founder of Victoria Adoptables, has found homes for hundreds of cats, dogs and little animals, but last year Curly was her first cow.

“We deal with nearly everything,” she said.

Three years ago Broad set up a web page that aims to find a home for animals in need from more than 20 Island organizations.

Kerri Maggiacomo, operater of Dee’s Orphan Kitten Fund, deals with 300 cats per year. The eight-year-old charity fosters and cares for stray and unwanted felines. Last year was extremely busy, Maggiacomo said.

“It was the worst since we started our program,” she said.

On Feb. 17 they got a boost from a stranger. For months Camie Hamilton, owner of Purrfetch Petcare, had collected pet food, toys, leashes and beds from her customers for donation.

“My trunk was full, my back seat was full and front seat,” she said.
